    Wishing you HH and your band of followers a happy New Year filled with peace and prosperity. Having lost my dear Father and a cat that was part of my little family this year I hope for better times ahead. Right now I’m tucked up in bed with my “sleepy tea” wishing for a new day. DH is watching some film or other and we are content.
    HH - thank you for sharing your life - it makes me put my own life into prospective x

    Thank you Sally and thanks for popping in on my diary. I hope 2019 is good for you.

  • New year's eve was better than I expected. I felt a bit strange in the daytime and popping to Mr M for salad and grape juice didn't help as it was heaving :(.

    But when aunt and uncle arrived and we started eating all our leftover Christmas food I felt better. Especially as DS2 and DS3 came and ate the meal with us :). After eating we all played Whist, including the boys :) and everyone enjoyed it. Then before we knew it it was nearly midnight.

    I would have skipped the fireworks but the DC and aunt and uncle seemed to want to watch them. I did feel strange during the count down and the fireworks thinking about watching it with mum and stepdad last year :(. But I tried to focus my mind on the people in the room and be thankful that I was with them and not on my own. That did help. Aunt and uncle didn't leave until 12.45am so they must have enjoyed themselves.

    So overall it went much better than I expected. Today I feel a bit dazed (I'm not used to late nights). We're going to collect DS1 from his friend's house at lunchtime, drop him home, and then me and DH are going for a walk at a NT place. I don't want to be in all day.

    Happy new year to everyone.

  • I found a bottle of white wine in the cupboard last night that I'd forgotten about, and we've got two bottles of red wine and a bottle of mulled wine undrunk from Christmas.

    Aunt and uncle brought a bottle of wine which got used last night, so we've still got four bottles of wine left over! I thought I might want some wine on new year's eve, but I just didn't feel like it, so I toasted the new year with grape juice.

    My first tetotal Christmas followed by my first tetotal new year. It's weird because I used to love wine (although I always bought cider for cheapness). It's saving money anyway.

    I bought some champagne (Lid1s) for NY but like you I don't fancy it so it will be saved until I do. I might save to toast the bedroom once the new window is in, it is decorated and the floor has been sanded and sealed.

    Could you think of a goal coming up that you might want to crack open a bottle and toast to?

    I'm so pleased that your new year went so well, HH. It sounds as if everyone enjoyed it. Well done:beer:

    Maybe that's another tradition you can keep up alongside the walk in the woods on Christmas day and visiting the NT place to see the Christmas decorations.

    I've finally started my own diary although I can't see many people being interested in my boring life. I've only done the first post to put the 'story so far' and it's a pretty boring read:eek:. I hope you'll all drop in for a chat sometime and keep me company to liven things up a bit.

  • @DIA Maybe when I get a job that might feel worth toasting. Wine doesn't go off for a long time anyway.

    @Carboot Yes maybe another new tradition. I've subscribed to your new diary :).

    @Wannabe Thanks, you too :).
