    Hi HHD

I love reading someone's diary when they have good news. It is serendipity!

I know 2018 has been one of your most difficult years. It will get more bearable although there will be those "tender" areas.

Regarding the difficulty of getting payment for work done - I rent out my old house and I got a phone call at 6.30pm from the tenant telling me the shower wouldn't turn off. I phoned the plumber and he will go out there later. He did say it was because I always pay their invoices immediately!

You actually sound quite organised for Christmas. I imagine you can't wait to have all your little ones (yes, I know they aren't little) under your roof again.

I'm flying back on Monday so I am in house tidy mode. Why does it make me feel so much better that I have cleaned up, changed bed etc etc? Perhaps I will feel more Christmassy when I get back.

Take care honey, such great news about the course
    Pauline

    Thanks Pauline :).

It does encourage us to do work more quickly for customers who pay more quickly ;).

I hope you do feel Christmassy when you get back and that you have a lovely time.

  • Intrigued by the No Spend Challenge your daughter plans to do next year. Is it a MSE challenge or something that she's organising for herself? Would appreciate a few details if you have a minute sometime. Thanks x

I've read a couple of books recently where the authors have spent nothing (over and above absolutely essential living costs) for a year and I plan to try something similar myself next year. I'd have more money if I stopped spending money on books about how not to spend money:rotfl:. I bought these 2 in a charity shop in the 2 for £1 section but all these little spends add up over time:eek:
Hi,my daughter watched a TED talk by a lady called Michelle McGagh, then read her book called My No Spend Year: How You Can Spend Less And Live More,it's inspired her to try it for herself, basically you can set it up with your own rules for how strict you want to be
DD is allowing spends for her essential bills and travel and food shopping ,she has to commute to different city for uni so needs to catch a train for this, the author of the book didn't allow any money for travel so she rode her bike everywhere but it's not practical for DD to do that, the author of the book saved £20,000 and paid it off her mortgage:eek:
My DD won't save that much because she is a student but she will save quite a bit,she wants to buy a house at some point so needs money for a deposit, she was going to buy one with her boyfriend but now they are no longer together she is having to do it on her own so it will cost more
    Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,894
  • Wow Hairy this is amazing news,I'm so pleased for you well done, the volunteering certainly paid off there,I did an NVQ as on the job training so was paid my normal wage, will you get paid for yours or not

I won't get paid unfortunately as I'm still a volunteer. But you need to be working or volunteering in a school before you're allowed to do the course. So doing the course will help me to get a paid job iyswim. I feel that I'll be one step closer to a paid job :).

  • This afternoon I felt worn out after a busy week, but I managed to get some housework done.

I was feeling cold when I was out today so I've washed my winter coat along with some other laundry. I hope it dries soon. Then I emptied the kitchen bins and put the dishwasher on. Plus I did a few surveys.

I still haven't had my YG money :( but the cheque from my dad has cleared. :).

I'm getting anxious about the fact that we've hardly bought a single Christmas present, so I want to use the money from my dad to buy a few presents over the weekend. I'm worried that we won't get them in the post in time.
