  • I know you can't ask the DC about computers but you could be vocal about the loss in the hope that one of them uses their own funds to buy a new one and gifts you the old one. Any excuse for a new laptop. Also worth asking round especially now, people don't know what to do with old ones.

The voluntary experience should help. Have you tried for care work as that seems to be hard to recruit for, and would fit well with your school stuff/dbs? Try looking on Indeed, you might have to wade through pages but there should be stuff. I recruit some people that way, and our adverts are often 15 pages in as we dont sponsor them.
  • Thanks Redo :). I should take a look. I was looking on there for Christmas vacancies.

I hope you have a good day too, HH:beer:
  • Phone call this morning to say OH had caught his first train.

No last-minute reprieve for me then, he won't be away another night.

I turned the heating off at 8.30 and the place is already freezing again:eek:. OH will be happy about that, he's absolutely hated the high temperatures at John's home. He says he hardly slept each night.

I hope your volunteering went well today, HH, and you enjoyed it:beer:

It's a shame you're cold again Carboot but it was good while it lasted.

I really enjoyed my volunteering :). We had another supply teacher as the usual teacher was ill, but the TA was there luckily. We were doing maths all morning. The children seemed excitable and were fussìng a lot today, it must be the approach of Christmas.

Since getting home I nipped into town with DH and I paid £100 of DS2's money into the bank and then transferred it into the mortgage account, along with £300 from a payment we got this morning from a customer. So that's November's mortgage payment paid :T.

I also picked up last year's accounts from the accountants. They'd been in their cupboard for a whole year, oops :o.

DH was worried about the car insurance expiring, so we rang up and the policy has auto renewed. It would cost a £40 cancellation fee to change to monthly payments  so we'll need to find the money soon. Luckily it's gone down in price as DH has three years NCB now :T. He lost all his previous NCB by not driving for three years . So we need to find £212 for twelve months car insurance. DH bought some time, so we need to hustle some money in to pay it as soon as possible, but we are insured, for now.

I feel like I'm constantly juggling 100 balls in the air :(.

Great news about getting paid, it must be a relief to have the mortgage paid for the month:j

Motor insurers usually write with a reminder that your current insurance is about to run out or to auto renew. Whichever company I've been insured with (and there have been lots as I'm a keen switcher for the best prices) they've always written to me at least a month before the expiry date. Encourage DH to keep notes in his diary/calendar about these things as it's often so much hassle and stress organising things at the last minute if renewal dates, like for your recent MOT for instance, get overlooked.

I think £212 for a year's insurance is pretty good though:j. Mine is quite a lot more than that and I've about 35 years without making a claim. They only tend to count 9 of the years for maximum NCD but I still pay more than your DH:(. It wouldn't them cost much if my car was written off either as it can't be worth more than about £800 now as it's so old.
  • DH probably did get a reminder but didn't notice. It is quite a cheap renewal price, but we don't do very high mileage. You may be being penalised for being a bit older I'm afraid Carboot :(.

    Your thread moves so fast!

First bravo on the drying rack. It will make life easier for you :)

Sorry about the PC. Mine crashed a few months back and I was panicked as I use it for work and other projects.

Good to hear you are beginning to have 'lighter' days.

Like your OH not driving for years sent me back to the beginning so this first year cost me lots. Can't wait to build some no claims (fingers crossed)

Re work, I hope something comes up soon :)
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Emergency fund 3501000
    Buffer fund 0/100

I clock up a lot of miles a year too:(. I may be older but I wonder how many younger people (well, middle-aged anyway) could do above average mileage and never make a claim over so many years. I bet their insurance is cheaper:(. At one time women's premiums were cheaper than men's as they were supposed to be safer drivers and made less claims but that seems to have changed now and we are all supposedly equal. Just another way for the insurance companies to get more money out of us:(.

I've been driving since I was old enough to but didn't own a car when I was young and wasn't named on OH's policy so didn't build up any NCD until I got my own car. For several years we both worked in the same town and OH always did the driving:(. It was only when I got a job in the opposite direction that I had to buy a car.

Going to do another 30 miles now:eek: as I'm just off to collect him from the station
