It's one of those weddings where the bride and groom hire a manor house in the middle of nowhere, so it's about 450 miles away and the only hotels nearby are boutique one costing £135 per night . It's just as well we can't go.
Even if we had the money it would be more sensible to put it in an emergency fund.
:eek::eek: to the hotel costs. Sounds like a lot of people from your part of the world aren't going so don't feel bad about it.
A close friend of my SIL married a few years ago (2nd time around for bride and groom so you might have thought they'd not have splashed out so much) but they wanted a mediaeval theme and hired a mediaeval castle venue. The guests had to wear mediaeval fancy dress. I kid you not:eek:. Some of the men turned up in sort of chain mail which I bet was mighty uncomfortable as it was a very hot summer day. My brother and SIL had to spend a huge amount of money hiring costumes, it wasn't the sort of event where you could just cobble an outfit together from an old curtain and bits and bobs at home:rotfl:. They didn't want to let the side down anyway as they felt honoured to be on the guest list. There were lots of disgruntled people who didn't get an invitation. What with the costume hire (and collecting and taking them back a great distance away), getting to the venue and the cost of the wedding gift it was a very expensive event indeed.
On the plus side, the mediaeval-style meal at the reception was unforgettable, the photos were wonderful and a bit of the wedding was even featured in a short clip on their local TV news programme. It wasn't shown in our area but my Mum saw it and even spotted my brother.0 -

Yes I think counselling may help so I should also ring the doctor today. I was feeling too miserable yesterday to do anything very proactive, but I slept much better last night.
Great that you had a better night's sleep, HH. Very hard to get to sleep with so much preying on your mind so it will have done you good to drift off from it all for one night at least:j
I hope you get some satisfaction from your electricity supplier. We were with NPower for donkey's years until 2008 but I switched to Scottish Power after putting up with constant really bad service from NP and endless problems over readings and billing. Scottish Power don't get a very good press for cusrtomer service but on the rare occasions I've had to contact them they've been really helpful and efficient.0 -
The mediaeval style wedding sounds interesting Carboot and hilarious, but very pricey for the guests .
I'm totally fed up with NPow3r but as we owe them money we are stuck with them for now .
I've eaten one frog and rung the doctor anyway. I've finally managed to book a flu jab and also asked for a doctors appointment. Tbey always ask what the appointment is for so I said I wanted to ask for counselling. Just saying those words made me feel upset. Anyway I've got a telephone appointment booked for the 8th November now to talk to a doctor.
I need to do some chores before I go out as we've run out of clean towels again.
I'll leave NPow3r for this afternoon as the way I feel now I'll probably be crying on the phone to them.

I'd challenge n. power too. I know rates have gone up but that is ridiculous. I confidently thought our water bill would go down now that SS isn't having stupidly long showers and running the WM with one thing in but it's actually increased which is mad.My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error.
