What an achievement to suddenly go all the way to somewhere like New Orleans (not just a package holiday where everything is arranged and accompanied) totally by himself. I've done a fair bit of world travel in my time (not in recent years alas:() and I know how daunting and sometimes scary travelling so far alone can be. It's so noisy and crowded, there's so much hustle and bustle and things to check and look out for before even getting there. It must all have been such a shock to him after his previously comfortably secure 'world' and he coped remarkably well with it.
Maybe it will be the start of him expanding his local horizons too, much further than the local shop anyway:beer:. If I were you and your DH, and please tell me to mind my own business if you are at all offended, I'd be doing all I could now (keeping the momentum of his trip going) to encourage him to interact with people more and be more independent. He definitely knows how to do it, he's proved it so well, and it would be such a pity for him to disappear back into his cocoon. He doesn't need to travel abroad to exert his independence.
Thanks Carboot. DS2 is amazing to do all of that. As you say it must have been a bit overwhelming for him to travel so far alone. He does seem more sociable since getting back, but is a bit of a loner by nature. I do agree with you about encouraging him to be sociable and believe me we do try. He knows now what he is capable of and it must have done his confidence a world of good

I volunteered this morning and worked this afternoon so a busy day.
The weather was actually sunny most of today for a pleasant change .
I've done 10,215 steps, 36 floors and 13 active minutes today :j.
Tomorrow I have a friend coming for coffee, so I've got a bit of tidying to do . We see each other about once a month. Then it will be work in the afternoon.
I can't believe it's Friday tomorrow! Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I'm sure you do, HH, I never doubted that for a minute and I'd hate to think you thought I was suggesting otherwise:o. It's obvious from what you write how much you love your boys and truly understand their various needs. Although they have problems they are very lucky young men to have you as parents, you and your DH are real stars:A0 -
Thank you Carboot, I didn't think you were suggesting that
. They are lovely children and we are lucky to have them. I value your input because I can be too close to the situation, so the perspective of someone outside the environment can help me to see it more clearly. So don't ever worry about offending me

I got up at 7.00am and carried on tidying and cleaning before my friend arrived. Her house is always spotless and mine will never be, but I didn't want the contrast to be too great .
My cleaning list was:
- Clean bathroom sink DONE
- Empty dishwasher & fill again DONE
- Clean cooker DONE
- Sweep kitchen floor DONE
- Tidy lounge DONE
- Tackle mysterious stain on lounge carpet DONE
- Clean hearth DONE
- Vacuum landing &bathroom DONE BY DH
- Vacuum lounge & hall DONE YESTERDAY
... and all before 11.00 am apart from vacuuming downstairs! The house looks great and I won't have to do much at the weekend now :T.
I had a nice time catching up with my friend who I hadn't seen for two months. Then work in the afternoon.
No surveys and no walk today sadly, but I burnt off a few calories doing housework.
