  • Very cunning Enthusiastic Saver :). It seems surprisingly easy to hide food from DH's ;) :rotfl:.

Congratulations btw, I see from your signature that you have now retired early. I am very jealous :).

Thank you and yes I had my party yesterday and as I received my P45 today and payslip with leaver written all over it I am beginning to realise that I no longer have to work. Money will be a bit tighter but we will be ok.

Congratulations. I have been watching your signature for a while now and the three months I saw it at to now have gone so quickly. x

  • Hi Hairy,

    Just catching up.

Shopping can be so difficult. The shops, especially one main super market, has a habit of ensuring things are placed where people just automatically pick them up. It doesn't seem much as it is usually a £1 or less item, but they soon add up once you add two or three of them into the basket.

I bet DS3 is made up, congratulations to him.

Sometimes a little spend is worth it for things like Jackets that are needed. If you divide it by how many years he will have it then it will be a decent buy.

That's a good idea about getting everyone to bring left over food over. Fab idea to keep costs low. I used to have a party on boxing day every year, but stopped doing it when it started to cost in the hundreds to feed everyone that came. I'd rather just go away now! I never thought to suggest everyone brought a dish with them.

Are you having your normal routine tomorrow? x

  • We wouldn't have the party if it cost that much . In the past we've spent about £30 :rotfl:. Our family knows we don't have much money so they all bring food and drinks. We have a big kitchen/breakfast room space so we have the flloor space to gather everyone together and it saves my mum from having to host it as she's in her eighties now. Plus it repays them for having us on Christmas day.

Yes it's my normal routine tomorrow :D

Today I'm going to be mainly doing house clean up and de-cluttering. DH is going to take some empty boxes and rubbish bags to the tip and I'm determined to finally finish going through the rest of DS2's rubbish bags .

DS2 and DS3 were making chocolate flapjacks last night using quinoa and they left a right mess in th kitchen . Still it means they're happy and not brooding in their rooms :).

I'm still full of cold but slept a bit better and don't have time to pander to it today.

Have a great Friday everyone :xmassmile:rudolf::snow_grin

  • Well I've sorted out another six of DS2's rubbish bags, sigh. I only made 20p this time . But the good news is there are only five bags left and I'm determined to go through those today :T. The end of the rubbish mountain is in sight :T.

DH has taken three empty cardboard boxes and five rubbish bags to the tip already today and now he's doing another trip with the six bags I've just sorted. That means our wheely bin will be empty and I can go through the last five bags and empty all the bins in the house and fill up our wheely bin again. No more rubbish lying around the house or garden :j:j:j.

When we have rubbish bags in our garden it makes me feel like complete trailer trash . Anyway sorry to go on and on about rubbish, not the most glamorous of subjects but it's one of our biggest problems in this house :rotfl:.

After that laundry and general de- cluttering is on my list for today. I'm not working today (in the money earning sense) so I'm devoting the day to sorting out the house for Christmas :snow_grin.

Have you tried hot lemonade for your blocked nose? I have absolutely no idea how it works, but it does seem to most of the time. It even works with diet lemonade (the 17p a bottle version too) although not quite as well as it does with the non diet kind. But it does avoid taking medication.
  • Absolutely with you on the rubbish. The bin men took our cardboard mountain away this morning which made me happy.
