Sorry it’s bad news about BIL, although if he responds to treatment things will turn out better than anticipated. Good that he’s comfortable.Don’t talk to me about slugs, we have them all year round here too as we have a fairly temperate climate. I’ve even found them in the house on several occasions 😱 A few years ago there was one on the kitchen wall and for a minute I thought it was a snake it was that long and even had a snake like pattern on its back 😱I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

Sorry to hear about your BIL, Hairy. ☹️
The slugs round here don't like geraniums either, I wonder if it's their scent as it's quite strong? My MIL hates the smell of geraniums and tried to ban us from having any in the garden. 😂 Unfortunately for her I love the smell of them. 😊
I discovered nematodes a couple of years ago and apply them to my garden (including pots) a couple of times a year and the slug population has dropped a lot. I really rate them.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. We have lots of slugs & snails here too, even managing to get into a hanging basket, which absolutely beggars belief! How do they know to crawl 6 feet up a wall, out along the support, down the chain and into the basket ???
We've had some success with beer in yogurt pots, which obviously sends out a clarion call 'Get your beer here !' to slugs many gardens away. But it's one thing using beer left behind by DSIL, quite another to actually buy it to feed the darn things !
I really don't like the idea of ones so big they mimic snakes, SA.7 -
I'm not a fan of slugs and I do try to keep the population down, but I've learnt over the years that it's easier to have plants that slugs don't like. I'll have to look into nematodes @sashybo . I think it's the furry leaves that slugs don't like on geraniums. Slugs are quite acrobatic @elizabethhull , like squirrels but a lot slower 🤣.
I've spent a quiet afternoon in the garden which suited my mood. I re-potted a palm into a bigger pot 🌿, used the old pot to plant four geranium plants 🌺 and planted my pansies in another pot 🏵. The plants look very nice grouped with my other pots. I find that a few solitary flowering plants in pots don't have much impact, but when you group a number together they look much more effective. I just need to water all my pots early evening as it's been quite warm today ☀️. I sat in the garden for about an hour to enjoy my endeavours.
I washed some bedding and that's drying in the garden on two clothes horses and I've emptied the kitchen bins. So a productive day but a bit of time for relaxing too. DH is cooking tonight which is good 🙂.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

We have wheelie bins & somehow they manage to get in there. The only thing I have found that actually kills them is salt.
