I recall your mentioning that your DH's business is always below the threshold for paying it and you were going to opt out. If you always get the amount you paid back why bother with it in the first place? It only takes valuable time and admin. I know things will have eased financially for you this month with your pay:j but when it was a case of your being really worried about the other bills, putting the heating on, food etc just to pay the VAT bill which would be reimbursed at a later date anyway it doesn't seem logical to me.
I think you mentioned it was so people DH was doing work for thought his business was bigger/more successful than it currently is when they saw he was VAT registered. I doubt anyone is fooled by that to be honest. Most of the people/companies he does work for will know he is a sole operator although I know lots of sole operators also make megabucks so I'm not really putting a valid case am I?:rotfl:. It's just that I can't really understand why anyone would want to make extra and unnecessary work for themselves.
Anyway, just a thought. Please tell me to mind my own business;)
Don't make me explain it again FS:rotfl:. There are actually some benefits to being VAT registered. Anyway it's DH's decision and he's going to have to calculate this one as I'm too busy now I'm working full time hours and doing a course.

Well that's the end of my second full week of cover. I've really enjoyed it and I'm actually less tired than I thought I would be
. Maybe knowing I'm earning more money has removed that layer of financial related stress which normally tires me out. DH seems tired and grumpy though
.
My day ended with a child dropping their full water bottle and flooding part of the corridor :rotfl:. There's never a dull moment in a school :rotfl:.
It's good to have a weekend coming up anyway so I can relax and do a few things around the house.
I hope everyone has had a good day. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Lovely to hear how happy you are and enjoying your job so much:T:j:beer:
You might be feeling less tired than you expected because you're well and truly over your illness now. The first few days after going back must have been a real slog:(. I know being busy always lifts your spirits and it sounds as if you've been very busy indeed. Also, you're getting used to the hours and the length of the day which always takes some getting used to when starting any new job. Is the paid cover for a fixed period or is it likely to be ongoing for some time?
Maybe DH is tired and grumpy because he still isn't fully over his illness but, IMO, more likely because he knows he'll have to tackle by himself all the dreaded VAT/account work that you used to do;)
Wishing you all a relaxing and happy weekend whatever you're doing:beer:0 -

Thanks FS. I am over my illness and I am getting used to the extra hours. I do think knowing I'm getting paid helps too though as it removes stress. Nobody knows how long the cover will last, as two TAs have asked for unpaid leave so it's a matter of when they want to be full time again.
I think DH is worried that's he's not bringing in enough money and yes I'm sure having to do the VAT return by himself won't help his mood. I'm just thankful that I'm too busy at school to be able to help with it.

This morning is a combination of relaxation and doing chores. I had a nice lie in, then I put a wash on as soon as I got up and I've emptied all the waste paper bins in the house. I've also paid the water bill (£94
) and bought £50 of premium bonds
. Apart from that I'm relaxing and putting my feet up.
After lunch we're meeting aunt and uncle at a NT place for a walk and coffee and then they've invited us back to their house for a meal, so I'm looking forward to that. The weather is dull but at least it's dry.
We did a Mr T order last night but they can't deliver until tomorrow lunchtime. Our food levels have become critically low so it's lucky we're going out for dinner tonight! DH nipped out and bought some bread and milk to tide us over until tomorrow.
I hope everyone is having a good Saturday so far.
