My DH and his side of the family can't take Tramadol as it causes halucinations and disorientation plus various other things but can take Codeine.0 -

That's really interesting about the headaches. I count my blessings every day that I'm pain-free but I do get headaches sometimes. I find swallowing pills a problem and the soluble co-codomols that my SIL gave me were brilliant on both fronts. They are my 'go to' headache relief now and I certainly never overuse them, usually only one at a time and probably no more than 4 in a whole 24 hour period when the headache is bad. I found a website about becoming codeine-free as I wondered if the headaches were partly caused by the very gradual build-up of codeine in my system over many years:o. I resorted to soluble aspirin/paracetomol instead and the headaches definitely became less frequent:j. Not sure if the two things were directly related though. I still keep a pack of co-codomol in the drawer, I feel uneasy if I know there are none in the house (typical addictive signs maybe?) but try to ration them out for very occasional use
I know some of you have severe pain and need them on prescription and although I've been lucky so far and haven't experienced ill health myself I appreciate how debilitating it must be. Sending hugs to all who struggle with pain of any sort:kisses3:
HHOD, I hope you and DH managed a restful night and managed to sleep right through:beer:0 -
It is very interesting to read other peoples reaction to these different "drugs" I find that if I am not too bad a couple of ibuprofen to kick start works wonders, co-codomol does nothing unless taken with an ibuprofen. But tramadol if my back is really bad is great, but I can see that if I had access to a repeat for tramadol that I would probably use it a lot more. I have to use them VERY sparingly as they are ones I kept when clearing my mother's house (whoops!), they are out of date, got them 8 yrs ago, so almost 3 a year.0

I can’t take anything codeine based at all. Projectile - is all I’ll say - they do not agree with me whatsoever. Even after surgery I’ve refused it as I feel worse with the sickness than managing the pain with naproxen and paracetamol......and as for morphine - I swore I’d never take it again - sickness, hallucinations, the lot.:eek: But I know a friend who can’t take ant-inflammatory stuff. So it’s each to their own with whatever route suits them. Hopefully dh will feel better soon.
Fantastic news about the TA cover....and all the worrying when the teacher volunteered a while back. Well done - you’ve obviously made an impression. The house will sort itself one way or another. I’m sure everyone will pull together once you’re working more hours.January spends - £587.580 -
I'm not allowed any opiates milann (no vomiting thankfully) which makes discussions like yesterday's with the anaesthetist before my operation interesting. They always try to get me to list which ones I've tried so they can suggest others - and I have to explain I don't have a complete list, and don't want to try more, and am perfectly prepared not to sign the consent form. So I get paracetamol, anti-inflammatory and anti-sickness, and manage pain by being very careful with the stuff I can take (paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin) as I know I'm limited in what I can use.
Great news on the TA cover HHOD - as milann says, you've obviously made a great impression.0 -
Thanks everyone

I slept like the proverbial log last night mainly because DH didn' keep me awake :T.
I managed to rest this morning apart from putting on the dishwasher, writing a birthday card to my nephew and something else I've forgotten about. We had wet playtime for the first half hour and it was mayhem in the dining room  but stopped raining for the last ten minutes thankfully.
DH collected me and we whizzed off to the shops to buy DS2 a birthday card and a few presents. Then we bought more food on the way back. I got some kefir to try, fruit, bread, milk, etc. I spent £7 on a birthday cake for DS2  and bought a toaster on impulse for £20. Our toaster has stopped popping up and I'm fed up with the kitchen smelling of burnt toast and burnt toast crumbs scatteed around like confetti . Money well spent I feel for something we use every day.
Tomorrow is going to be my first full day of cover, so I'm going to rest tonight as today has been tiring. I've asked DS3 to wash his own clothes tonight/tomorrow as I need a rest. Everyone has been cooking their own dinner since DH and I have been ill, so I'm just going to do myself cheesy beans on toast with microwaved cauliflower florets. Much less tiring than cooking for everyone.
I hope everyone has had a good Thursday.

I'm glad you got your new toaster:j. What is it with toasters, they never seem to last as long as they used to?. We use ours every day and I always buy a 'good' brand (usually when in a sale or on some sort of offer:money:) but they never seem to work properly for long. It's normally the thermostat (or whatever the thingy is that regulated the temperature)that plays up on ours. Our current one now has the browning control set at maximum and I still have to put the bread through at least two full cycles and even then it's not even the browness we like:(. Can't be doing with all that faffing about so might bite the bullet and copy you by buying a new one:beer:.
Our last one had something wrong with the 'pop up' mechanism after a while and unless we were actually standing by waiting to catch the flying toast the toast shot up so high in the air and sometimes disappeared without trace:rotfl:. It was only when we pulled the fridge-freezer out to recycle it that I found 3 slices of old toast behind there:eek:. Shows what a domestic slob I am:o. In my defence the fridge-freezer is a lot taller than me and fits so snugly into it's space that it's quite a feat to pull it out so it gets left where it is. At least we know we don't have mice as that toast would have been eaten long ago.;)
Great that you both slept well:T. Have a good day at school doing your cover:beer:0
