One Xmas morning, my brother went out for a long cycle ride. He went for a shower on his return, and water came through the ceiling into the kitchen light bulb, overflowed and dripped over me cooking Xmas lunch !! Never seen hubby run up the stairs so fast, 'Stop the shower' he yelled through the door.
Hm, no more showers that year until emergency plumber came. Fortunately long years of washing my hair in a sink came to the fore !
These days, being without a shower is almost the Dark Ages !
I hope you can get it fixed soon.HairyHandofDartmoor wrote: »We're getting drip fed a small amount of information by DS2!
The water only pours through the ceiling when people shower, so as long as we're dirty everything will be fine . We'll ring the builder before I go out.0 -
Ha ha we are lost without our modern amenities :rotfl:. As a child I used to wash my very long hair (as it was then) with a jug leaning over the sink, but it's so much easier when you can wash it in the shower.
My Christmas Day disaster story happened when DH and I lived in a rented flat and couldn't go home to visit family for Christmas due to work commitments. We'd cooked Christmas lunch and were just about to eat it when a fireman knocked on the door and said the church next door was on fire .
So we had to stand outside in a cold wind until the fire was put out and it was safe to go back indoors. Needless to say our Christmas dinner was stone cold :rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I am just delurking. I have been following your diary. One of my sons did Camp America before he went to university. He spent three months up in the Appalachian mountains think Amish country so I sympathise with the feeling of not being able to rescue them quickly if something goes wrong. He did get home s afetly. He is a twin and his sister decided that she was technically older than him that year because of the time difference. She is off to Seville in January for three months with Erasmus having spent three months in Austria and two months in Italy working this year. I find Whats app the cheapest way to stay in touch as it uses the internet.
I did chuckle at your Christmas day disaster story though it must have been awful at the time.0 -
Hi fraser thanks for reading my blatherings and for delurking :hello:.
Were you very worried about your son while he was in America? My main worry is that DS2 is all alone there, but he does seem to be coping well so far. I worked out he was 4400 miles away yesterday and then wished I hadn't
Sometimes you can wish your children were less adventurous!
Our Christmas disaster is certainly funny in retrospect, but still has the award for worst Christmas ever :rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Good morning
Well we have finally got snow although traffic is moving as I live on a bus route. I went out twice yesterday, once walking and once in the car.
It sounds like you had a very successful shopping trip. Good on you for buying yourself a treat. I bet it has been years since you bought an impetuous dress. Oh, I like that phrase! I am always impressed in your charity shop purchases. I think they are always worth a rummage.
It's not surprising you have been worried and I don't think you would be out of order to explain that to him when he gets home.
Hopefully you will have a good day
Take care

Boo to the shower
We managed to survive a few days without one when we had the new bathroom back in the summer. I bought some flannels and a washing up bowl. Makes you realise how you take everyday things like that for granted. It will seem so luxurious to have a shower when it's fixed.
DD went on holiday to Turkey one year, supposedly for 2 weeks, and eventually returned 3 months later! Needless to say it involved a waiter.
Don't feel guilty about the new dress it's not as if you buy one every week, and if it makes you feel good then it's worth its weight in goldI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0
