  • Despite the weather forcast saying there was a 25% chance of rain, it's been drizzling unrelentingly all day. My morning at school was okay, although I missed my break because of a meeting and my lunchtime job is always more tiring in the rain. But I think the main reason I feel tired is because I feel demoralised.

I took the opportunity to speak to the deputy head and mentioned I'd finished my Level 2 and was about to start my Level 3 course. She replied that she wished she could offer me a job but they needed to cut back rather than spend more money and she couldn't think of anyone who was ready to leave :(. I said I'd love to work at that school, but would have to assess the situation after finishing my Level 3. So I feel very miserable and demoralised now. I was hoping that something would come up at this school but it's not looking very likely now :(.

Still I suppose my plan should stilll stand. I'll finish my Level 3 and then if nothing has come up by then I'll go on the supply register.

I do feel fed up though. It's a combination of things. It's the five year anniversary of my sister's death today, it's been raining all day, I feel tired, and there are no opportunities likely to come up at my present school :(.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling low today, HHOD. Perfectly normal on the anniversary of your sister's death. Sending hugs your way xxx. This miserable weather doesn't help either.

I wouldn't write off your chances of getting a job at your current school. You still have several months before you have the Level 3 qualification and a lot can happen in that time. Just because the Deputy Head doesn't know of any current staff members who might leave it doesn't mean someone's circumstances might change and they do move on. Things like their husband getting a job somewhere else and the family having to move. Or a TA becoming pregnant. These things often happen. Keep plodding on, things have a strange way of working out:)

They don’t know of any job vacancies coming up - but they don’t know what plans staff have up their sleeves either.....I don’t think they can’t say either way atm....i know you’d have to apply like everyone else if a job came up and it’s not a done deal just because you volunteer there.....hang on in there. The supply list is usually pretty good once you are known to them

  • Sorry it's not a great day for your mood. With everything though, it is hardly surprising you aren't feeling at your best.

Like Milann says, staff change all the time and you just never know.

Sad anniversaries and miserable weather would make anyone feel down. It's so dark as well, I can't believe we've needed a light on some daytimes.
I suppose all people can do is send virtual hugs, and believe things will get better again. Dreadful platitudes, I know, but there you are. Space in your life to mourn significant people is important, I feel. Their lives were important to you, and they are frankly missed. We would all hope to be missed, in fact.
Sometimes I think we almost need permission to remember with sadness, not beat ourselves up over it.

  • Sorry you feel down. I can see why. Take care and be kind to yourself until it passes. Sending a hug.

Thank you to all the lovely diary readers who have taken the time to post kind comments to cheer me up. It does help.

I still feel a bit down today but not as bad as yesterday. But I don't think anyone at school would have noticed. I did my volunteering/job as well as I know how to, was friendly to everyone and pretended to be cheerful. I still feel convinced that a job won't come up and that even if it did they'd give it to the teacher, but I'm going to stick to my plan.

My tutor popped in and I signed a load of paperwork to finalise my Level 2, so now it should just be a matter of waiting for my certificate to come.

Speaking of certificates I got my first aid certificate at work the other day, so I passed the test.

When I got home from work (feeling exhausted because I slept really badly because I was upset) I put a wash on. I know I'm tired because I put a load of tee shirts on to wash at 60 degrees instead of 40 degrees, so I hope they haven't all shrunk :(.

I checked my student loan account and my loan to do my Level 3 has been approved. Once I actually attend my first tutorial they'll pay the training provider.

I also paid our builder for the back gate and kitchen skirting boards. This cost £762 including vat. It was more than we expected because the quote hadn't included the vat :(.

So I'm getting things done but I'm getting no pleasure from it at the moment. I'm just going through the motions.

HHoD, Quotes not including VAT really annoy me. Had a leaflet popped through my door earlier this week (for a job we actually are looking to get done this autumn). It looked quite good initially.... then I realised it didn't include VAT & 20% is quite a lot to add on, isn't it?
Also... just wanted to say I do understand sad difficult anniversaries. It's a year since we were told Mum's surgery had failed & her then being moved to palliative care. I'm not down about it. It is what it is & certainly things are a lot less stressful then they were this time last year, but it's sad isn't it, when these anniversaries come round? So just adding my sympathies x
