I can't believe how quick the school holidays have gone. It doesn't seem like 5 minutes since you broke up and was thinking about how to fill your time. Mind you there might be quite a few parents not thinking along those lines :rotfl:

Yesterday was a tiring and emotional day! DH and I went to Mum and stepdad's house and collected a bookcase stepdad said I could have. Then we went back and collected the chest. I also brought home the rest of the photos.

After that I dashed into town to get some arch supports for DS3, he's had painful feet since getting back from holiday and the nurse said he has flat feet and needs arch supports, plus he needs to see a podiatrist. Then I swopped DS1's lenses over at the optician as his prescription has changed. I felt exhausted when I got home and a mass of aches and pains. It's been such a busy week.

Today I've just been getting ready for the term beginning. I've got a first aid course tomorrow and start properly on Wednesday.

It's silly but after not really wanting to be off school for six weeks, I now feel slightly reluctant to go back :o. But I'm sure once I get there I'll be fine. The holiday has been good and bad. I really enjoyed being in Scotland with my sister and I'm glad I visited my Dad. But I've also had some upsetting times sorting out my Mum's belongings. I'm sure it will do me good to go back as it will give me something to think about other than my Mum and family matters. But I've got out of the habit of going. Also I'm not sure what the first aid course will be like as that's a new thing for me :o.

I agree that it has gone quickly SA. I used to love my children being home for the holidays, but some parents may be glad to have them back at school I guess :).

  • The time has gone quickly. I don't want to go back in either. I would much rather stay at home with my little one for just a bit longer.

I understand what you mean about it changing you. I don't think you ever recover from it, but you learn to adapt.
It must also be awful that your stepdad is wanting to get rid of these things as well. You're dealing with a number of different issues at the same time.

Hope the first aid course goes well for you. x
    September 2017 Debt = £25330

    Starting afresh.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x
  • Thanks Nicnak :). It is upsetting that stepdad doesn't want to keep the photo albums but he said he's got most of them in digital form. I think the main reason he doesn't want them is because it makes him feel sad.

I do feel like I've been dealing with a lot of difficult and upsetting things this holiday. I don't want to go back to school tomorrow :( but it's probably the best thing for me as it will distract me and get me back in my routine. My sister said that after an hour I'll feel like I've never been away!

I'm dreading DS3 going back to uni too :(. He's probably going in a week's time and I'll really miss him. He's been home for twelve weeks but it's flown by so quickly and I don't want him to go.

  • A big hug coming down South to you HH. You have dealt with so much this past year or so. You have been so kind to your stepdad . I think myself that your mum would rather you had the items and loved them, looked at them, handled them than being left somewhere just hidden away. Everything you deal with you do so respectfully.

I agree , one hour back at work tomorrow, learning all the children's names etc, you will feel you haven't had 6 weeks off.
Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.

I've dipped in and out of your diary many times, HHOD, but although I've lurked on MSE for years have never joined the forums until last week:o. I hope you don't mind me joining in and posting on your diary as you've had such an interesting 'journey' to where you are now and, I'm sure, will continue to have lots of developments that resonate with many people.

Sadly, my parents took barely any photos:(. What I had to distribute between my siblings after my Mum died wouldn't have filled a child's shoebox:(. The amount you have inherited must seem overwhelming at the moment but also the source of lots of wonderful memories when you sort through them.

I suppose it must be very difficult when two older people remarry as they'll have duplicates of everything to fit into one home. I'm thinking furniture and general possessions, not photos. Is your Stepdad moving into his future wife's home or are they selling both and buying something new to them both? Always the best plan IMO to start afresh. I can understand why he feels he has to downsize his belongings in the circumstances and it's lovely that he's letting you have what you'd like.

Good luck for tomorrow. The First Aid course won't be anything to worry about. You'll probably find it fun.

Hi HHD :) It's been a tough few weeks physically and emotionally for you so maybe a change of scene and a different atmosphere for a few hours every day might be a blessing. I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things at school before you know it.

I've hardly seen DD since she finished her first year what with her moving straight into the house and then finding herself a job so I know how you feel about DS going back :o Mind you, I've hardly seen DS either and he's still at home :rotfl: xx

Thank you Sunshine :). I agree that my Mum would have wanted me to have her things if Stepdad didn't want them.

I do feel like I'm struggling today but it's a combintion of things. Going to school tomorrow will probably change my mindset for the better but at the moment I don't want to go :o.

Tea for 2 I hardly see my DD who still lives at home, not necessarily a bad thing :)

HH you’ll be fine once you get back into the swing of it. Give it a couple of days and it’ll be like you’ve never been away. I’ve got my mums photos and diaries in a box. I look at them from time to time, 19 years ago yesterday since I lost her, still think of her every day, but it does get easier.

    Have a good week xx
