  • I've had a busy couple of days so haven't had time to post. On Wednesday I went to my Mum and stepdad's house to help them sort my Mum's things. The next day I spent looking through 32 photo albums I'd brought home and deciding which photos to keep. That two days felt quite emotional and sad. :(.

    .

Oh that's a difficult thing to do. Although I've sorted most things, I still haven't been able to go through the photos, and it's now over 10yrs since my father died (the year after my mother). The photos are sitting in a huge cardboard box, and though I keep meaning to do something,, somehow it hasn't got done.
So well done on starting this.

That must be incredibly difficult to have to do. So many memories for you to go through. I hope you are genuinely okay and not just putting on a brave face.

Photos can make you feel incredibly sad Elizabeth. But you should only look at them if you want to. I feel sad anyway so I may as well go through them. But if you've managed to move on then why invite sadness into your life.

It was difficult. I brought them home because stepdad didn't want them and I didn't want them to be thrown away. But I don't really have room for 32 photo albums (plus a big box of loose ones). So I looked through them to try and whittle them down a bit. six of them turned out to be family history info. I've thrown away some photos that were just scenery or people I didn't know, and put some aside to give other family members. But I wanted to keep most of them as they are a record of my Mum's life (and my life) and were important to her. She went to a lot of effort to put them in albums and write dates and places on the back.

Anyway we're going to Mum's house today to collect a chest that stepdad doesn't want, and that will be a good place to store the family history and hopefully some of the photo albums that I want to keep.

I'm all right in the sense that I'm functioning Nicnak but I I don't feel the same person as I was before losing my Mum and sister. You learn to cope but it changes you inside, so you have to adapt to become a different person than you were. I know that you will understand this Nicnak because of the effect your illness had upon you.

You'll make the right choice with the photos Hairy. I think it's lovely that you will keep these and your family mementos in her chest.

Morning HHD :) Photos are another personal thing aren't they. I don't have any up in the house at all. I tried with one of my Dad after he passed away but I think it lasted about an hour before it went in the wardrobe. Occasionally I will reach the photo box out and go through them all when I want to go down memory lane and I really enjoy doing that. It's a happy time for me but I have to be in the right frame of mind.

The chest sounds a perfect place to store your family things - it sort of ties everything together doesn't it.

Hope you have a lovely day. xx

How lovely to get the chest to keep everything in.
I have a picture of my dad which is in my bedroom & I see it every day when I wake up & each night before I go to sleep.

  • Hard task deciding which photos to keep, am sure over time you will get there. Hope you had time for your Saturday saunter . Glad to hear the DS had a good holiday. You have had a very busy few weeks and now it's time for back to work . I hope you enjoy your return to school.
