Just stumbled across this thread and am hooked. What great ideas you all have. I was printing out some labels for survival kits (for when your feeling blue) for my Mum who is making them for our Church christmas fair.

I have briefly read through the pages and a few people were asking for recipes based on UK measurements for the cookie mix jars. I saw the idea when I lived in Canada and I have been meaning to do these for years, but never get around to it!! Maybe next year!

If you go to this link http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Country-Oatmeal-Cookie-in-a-Jar/Detail.aspx it takes you to a particular recipe on the allrecipes.com website which I have used for years. I just did a search for cookie mix jars and got a load of recipes, but the best thing is, is that you can change the measurements to either US or Metric (grams) on any of the recipe. I also like to change the 'sort by' to rating... that way you get all the 5* then 4* etc recipes first. Hope that helps if not too late!

I love the journal jar ideas, and am thinking of doing an motivational/inspirational quotes jar for DH. I just hope my 3year old and 6month old give me the time to do it!

Wish I'd seen this last night when I was making a jar for my Hubby - maybe I can get to the shops tomorrow for another jar & make another one! Lovely ideas everyone!!

  • Just wanted to say that everyones jar gifts are great- I think they are such wonderful gifts for people! It also shows that you don`t have to spend a fortune on a gift for someone.
I`ve gathered inspiration for gifts for next year as they can be used for all occasions.

  • My mum is going in for an operation soon and will be off work for 8 weeks so I thought a journal jar would be a nice way to keep her busy while she is off work and unable to do much.

Any idea of questions? never made one before

    thanks all

cookie - there is a website that gives lists that you can use as prompts for your own questions or you can just use theirs. Can't remember which one it was now but if you google Journal in a Jar something will come up - or someone else might know the link.

I did one for my friends birthday and did questions about her childhood, schools etc., plus some about her parents, what they were like - really sort of 'family history' type stuff. There's all sorts of variations you could use.
    Good luck. Lovely idea:j
