savingholmes wrote: »bunbun the box looks lovely! :T You are reminding me I still ideally want to do some more journal in jars... I'm using decorated nescafe jars mainly so not too expensive.
I would quite like to give my mum a journal with plain pages in (could be coloured but not sickly sweet) -does anyone know where I can get one at the moment at a decent price? They all seem to be lined? I hate lines... having to fit in such tight rules... oh sorry we were talking about writing...:rotfl:
I'm the opposite to you savingholmes and like the linesHave you tried Wilkos, I got my lined notebooks from there A5 size was £1, I am almost certain they has plain paper books also.

I made my first jar with Christmas muffins from Good Food magazine - looks good, but I have 'adapted' it a bit! I also made apple and cranberry chutney over the weekend, as well as fruity biscottis and arancello! I've gone mad!
So mad, that yesterday afternoon I had to go to Lakeland in Windermere (1 hour drive!!!) to get some more jars and bottles for all my goodies. It is like Aladin's cave there!!!! Got some really pretty jars (sort of kilner, but with ceramic top - looks very pretty) and some small jam jars (227g) and some bottles with the stopers... Now, I just need to decide what other chutneys, pickles and jams to make!
I wish we lived nearer a Lakeland shop but the OH is pretty glad we don't as I'd always want to pop in there:wave: If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -

OH used to be taken for a trip to Nottingham when we lived in Midlands, and it will just happen that we 'pass' Lakeland shop. Good thing for me is that he is also enjoying kitchen and cooking and it would be the main room in our flat if it was any bigger and would fit 2 people at the same time!!!!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Hiya
I've found that the Douwe Egbert (sp?) coffee jars are a really nice shape, and have a 'stopper' type lid.
It's a bit more expensive than other brands, but I've picked up a few on special offer a couple of times.
And, if you have a coffee club at work, maybe you could try to persuade them to buy DW coffee...
Douwe Egberts is on offer in Asda. £2.00 per jar - reduced from £2.70ish. There's a voucher on the top for 50p off your next jar, but I took mine off and used it for the jar I'd just bought.:o0 -

Haven't tried to cook them, but I am sure they will be gorgeous!
I used 1l kilner jar from Tesco (£1.25) with clip top. I did it this way:
put 200g of flour
then the other 100g of flour mix with baking powder, cinnamon and spice for colour and sift in the jar through tea strainer. I tried to press down the ingredients after each addition, so they are more compact.
Next I put sugar
and then mixed fruit (used tesco mixed fruits, as they come in 500g and 1kg packs, as I use them for breakfast)
Last pecans.
I know it said to put the ingredients in order listed, but I though about put it them by the size/density, so the sugar won't fall down through the nuts and fruits, for example.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Hey all, I hope this finds you all happy and well
I used the last of my summer tomatoes and some chillis I had grown to make some tomato and chilli jam at the weekend. It is really delicious and very easy to make. I used mostly fresh tomatoes and some tinned so I wonder if you could use all tinned. It is a great colour too for Christmas presents and would be really good with the turkey, ham or cheese at ChristmasGod is good, all the time
