    Hi All

I read all the way through this thread last night and I'm inspired - :j
But one complaint - you lot woke me up in the wee, wee hours! (and yes I went to the loo as well!)
I'm going to do the journal for my mum and then for OH I thought about a camera journal with a photo album and the suggestion of different photo's - like family members, pets, sunset, sunrise, raindows!!! etc - but does anyone have suggestions for etc???

I am writing this and now hoping that in the long read of this thread and all the links in it this hasnt already been mentioned and I'm busy naffing someone off!! (sorry in advance if this is the case!!)

    Thanks
    Magsy

That sounds a great idea! You could do cryptic questions like "you'll have to be up early to snap this as it rises".

I've got lots of journal questions in Word, PM me with your email address if you'd like a copy.

Ok I made my trial brownies in a jar :D I think a few more are needed and here is a picture of what NOT to do:rotfl:

    DSC00045.jpg

I didn't use twinks hobnobs recipe as you need to add golden syrup and thought people might not want to buy it especially if they haven't got any at home. I used the recipe on page 1 of this thread (think it was earthmother's).
I put the weetabix at the bottom then the sugar then the choc buttons, then the flour and finally the cocoa thinking dark, light, dark, light, dark. Only problem was the choc buttons got covered up by the flour so all the white ingredients are together. Also there are not enough ingredients to fill the jar so may put some marshmallows on the top.
The finished product tastes good (so that's something positive:rotfl: ) but I used dairy free margarine which was not a good idea as although it cooked properly it didn't bind together.
    so...another trial (or two) beckons:rotfl:

Hi bunbun, I think your jar looks lovely! I would maybe try layering the ingredients by weight, heaviest/most dense at the bottom and pack everything down well so a layer is as flat as possible before adding the next layer. I am going to try a layer jar but it's for DS1 who'd 4 so if I make a complete hash of it, he's not going to mind that much so long as what we cook tastes nice ;) Good luck with jar number 2 :D

I have just finished making the journal in a jar. I made two, both for 9 year old girls. I used the instructions from this site http://organizedchristmas.com/adult-journal-jar and I adapted the journal questions into British English and printed them with a patterned background onto photo paper. As these jars were for children I wanted to use plastic jars so I bought a jars of sweets at the 99p shop, the sweets were so bad that they went in the bin, but the jars were just right. I printed the jar label and stuck it on with glue dots, I added a few stickers and ribbon to decorate the jar.

To complete the present I bought a folder and put together some stickers (from The Works) some glue dot sheets (taken from a larger pack) some scissors and gel pens (Home Bargains) and a notebook with coloured pages (Tesco). I decorated the front of the notebooks and I added some foam stickers to the jar, for the child to decorate the journal. In total it cost about £10 per jar, but you can adapt this depending on your budget.
