I remember reading something along the lines of "It is now theoretically possible to lose your licence in one trip if you pass enough speed cameras while speeding"
I think it was in "Jalopy" magazine in the early 90s when the cameras were first coming in.
The lesson to be learned is "Don't speed"
That's the only way these days.

I've just been on holiday in Scotland, and said to my sister (who was driving in and out of constant speed changes) "you know, it would be quite possible to lose a license while on holiday, if you weren't careful". And she has a clean license. :p

Why would it? As a truck driver doing 2000 miles or more a week all over the UK I managed to stay points free for over two decades. You don't need to be careful, just observant as you should be.

  • It will cost much more than the fine associated with the points. Don't forget to inform your insurer once the points have been generously added to your licence.

To be fair to him, I took a speed awareness course, and I still speed, occasionally (M6 50mph speed zones for example). Does that make me a !!!! person? No it makes me a bit daft.

Must admit, I've never been caught speeding twice in 10 minutes though.... Don't you like slow down for the cameras or do you just pile through ?

What exactly does "like slow down" actually mean?

You can either slow down, stay at the same speed or accelerate.

It's bad enough when you hear people talking and "like" seems to be used a couple of times in every sentence but why does that pointless use of the word need to be added to what people write?

Are you one of those people who slows down when encountering an average speed camera then accelerates again?

I'm glad it's not just me. As you say, it's bad enough when people litter their spoken words with "like", but seeing it written down is just, like, pointless.

Add it to another interesting habit, which is people's accounts of events or problems beginning with "So", as in "So, I was driving to work the other day..." and "So, my car failed its MOT". Almost every other thread seems to begin this way now.

Thank goodness? the rising inflection affliction? hasn't transferred to the written word yet? Or has it..? I always think that people who speak in that way sound terribly unsure of themselves or what they're saying. It used to be heard only amongst children and teenagers but it's spread to a much wider age range now. I know lots of people who never used to talk like that but now do, so it's clearly infectious.
