So 40+ years. Ok, not 'always' but hardly worth mentioning as a 'legal requirement now' then.0 -

It was raining as well. As there was NO other vehicles, my OH was driving on the middle lane. We are aware of middle lane hogging. There was absolutely no other vehicle that we were obstructing at that time. From nowhere came this police car. Overtook us with blue lights, showed a sign to "Use the correct lane". As soon as we got to the left most lane, they sped off. Never got anything in terms of letters or fine. It has been about 6 months now.
So your the kind of people who do that!.
I've seen this a couple times on the motorway a vehicle going along in the middle lane and I've approached them in the left lane and then had to go to the third lane and back to overtake them. It's a shame you didn't get a ticket because the Highway Code still applies even when there are no cars around!.
It's just stupid to drive in the middle lane in those circumstances, I don't see why he would have wanted to anyway.0 -
Is it possible the OP had daytime running lights on, instead of headlights meaning the rear lights wouldn't have been on? That might have been why they flashed after the overtake. All your base are belong to us.0

That's not quite correct... driving without due care and attention (aka 'careless driving' which is what middle-lane hogging normally comes under) does not require anyone to be inconvenienced or endangered.
The offence is committed when "driving falls below the standard expected of a competent and careful driver." Rule 264 of the Highway Code says "You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear" so pretty much a slam dunk if it ever went to court.
Quite apart from the legalities though, the most annoying thing for me and many others is that the OP and Baby Angel's OH seem to think they own the road and show a complete lack of consideration for other road users. It's simply rude and does nothing but add to the malaise of society.Every generation blames the one before...
