  • Procured a can of ginger beer from the fridge at work... BBE March 2016...:rotfl: I don't think anyone will mind!

I'm then going to have a free posh coffee - get my money's worth of of them:D
  • dnms having been slightly addicted to pancakes and pennies since you posted last night, what do you put in for shortening? Do you use suet?

Wonders off to do some work before I get totally lost in the blog :o

I know! I was obsessed with it when I found it, last year I think. I've made quite a few of her recipes and they've all been gooduns - cinnamon buns, wraps, breakfast burritos, french bread mmmmmm

re shortening I used 50% lard and 50% butter - so much more tasty than store bought :D

I wonder what DNMS uses. I don't think it can be lard as I'm pretty sure she's vegan.

I haven't made any for ages but when I looked it up it said use any type of vegetable oil.

I've given up being vegan - I love the food but found some things too much work/effort. I'm trying my hardest to be vegetarian but fall off the wagon sometimes. Am happy with small changes though :p

    Afternoon all!

Its been a quiet day here today.

A quick load of washing done & just run out to get the drying to save me using the dryer as it started raining!

Stuffed peppers for tea with all the bits left in the fridge. Dh always comments how I manage to make good food out of seemingly nothing! I'm trying my best to hold off going shopping for as long as I can so we use everything in the house first!

Things are doing well on bay of e. 2 things will definitely sell & had a message asking if I'll combine postage if someone buys a few things (result!) My pushchair has 3 watchers & 3 days left so I'm hoping that sells. Slowly getting rid of the baby things now!

DNMS, I was vegetarian for 13 years with just the odd lapse (usually when I was drunk plus I allowed myself to eat whatever I liked at festivals!), you just do the best you can.

Purple Fairy - Re shortening.....when I was learning to cook back at school, I can remember we were always told 'half butter & half shortening' when we were making shortcrust pastry. Butter was for flavour & colour and shortening was to make a 'shorter' pastry (which is to do with texture/crumbliness, etc). So for that we used either lard or the vegetable equivalent. My Nan was a really good pastry maker & she always used Trex, so that's what I use too. It keeps pretty well in the fridge as usually has quite a long use-by date. I use it for pastry, as well as making oatcakes & in savoury crumble toppings if I don't have quite enough butter. That's what I'm going to use when I try the tortilla wrap recipe, anyway. I wonder what DNMS uses. I don't think it can be lard as I'm pretty sure she's vegan.
Oh....I should add that the downside of buying Trex is that mr f insists on calling it 'T-Rex', which means I have to endure the riff from 'Twentieth Century Boy' whenever it's on the shopping list.......

This made me laugh out loud. I can just imagine mr F singing round the kitchen with puss looking at him all bemused :rotfl:

Thanks for the tip. I'll put some on my shopping list. My nan always used to put some in her amazing pastry so will see if I can recreate. Her mince pies were epic!
  • Hi gang

Made it to the weekend! :D

I've just been reconciling YNAB and to my horror I've realised that a '3 for £3' deal on dog treats I bought yesterday went through at full price! I've paid a grand total of an extra 27p! :rotfl:

I desperately need to clean the house this morning but I just CBA... Must get off my butt soon and get on with it...

OH is working job#3 today - think he's looking forward to that as he's not had a client in a while. Should get around £30 after expenses etc.

Then we're off the inlaws. There's £34.66 left in the petrol kitty so let's hope we can get there and back. :rotfl: Images of me spending the next week in the countryside because I'm not buying any more petrol until 1 October. :p

Breakfast is bacon sandwich for OH and toast n' peanut butter for me...

    Catch up later my lovelies!

Just started a horrible thing on my lunch break. It is kinda dfw though (at least money related).

All of our accounts etc are in my name, so in the event of my untimely demise, dear hubby will need this info to hand.

It turns out that drafting a letter to be read after your own death makes even grumpy so-and-so's like me extremely teary. :(
