As I said, the link is in the OP

Hello! First post so be patient if Im asking the obvious!
I've decided with the new year to become more money savvy and to look into where I can save/ claim back money.
I had LOADS of credit cards when i was a student, continually swapping them for the 0% balance transfers and know that I DEFINATELY got charged over the odds on more than one occasion.
My question is, is there any one place I can go to or check what credit cards I had running in what years...so that I can then contact the relevant companies to start claiming back the cash? OR if I used a company to claim these charges back for me would they be able to do it?
Also, when I have found out the info I need and start claiming, do I write to the credit card group or the credit card co. itself - ie. for my Virgin credit card do I write to Virgin and/or MBNA?
Many Thanks in advance for your help - am already getting excited at the money I can save this year!0 -
Hi, I am after some advise about late payment charges on my Dorothy Perkins Store card. I am not sure if this is the right thread. I set up a payment to be made from my bank account on 1/1/11 & have checked my bank account which is when the payment left my account, I about bank holiday so the payment was not made to Dorothy Perkins until 4/1/11 and the payment was due for 3/1/11, I have now been charged £12 for late payment. I am annoyed with myself because I should have remembered there would be a delay over the holiday period. Just wanted to know would it is worth challenging it or don't I stand a chance, I know it is only £12 but it is the principle.0

Your best bet would be to discuss with them the situation and why it arose and see if they would consider a goodwill gesture credit.
Remember, the OFT only said that charges in excess of £12 would be deemed by them as automatically unfair ... and you've not been charged more than £12 the lender may be prepared to fight this all the way.
The other thing is, unless you are sure your payment would be processed by faster payments, then chances are even if the bank was open on 3rd Jan, the payment would not have been received by the company on time.
Is there not some guidelines in the terms & conditions as to how many working days you should allow payments to reach your account?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Hey good people of MSE, as a newbie to this site, and someone who has started to go through the process of reclaiming, I wanted some help and suggestions of what I should do:
Sent a letter to MBNA asking for approx £700 in charges. They have sent me a cheque today for 116 quid.
Although there is nothing stated in their letter to say if I bank this cheque, they will consider it "case closed", am I within my right to reply to them saying I will accept this as part payment, and want the difference?
Could do with some help here.....
Thanks!0 -
I have just had a result with a Lloyds Credit Card that was closed in 2007 and to be honest it was a very lengthy process. I used a claims company to help me, but I'm fairly sure if you are doing it yourself that as long as you stick with it you will get the same result. Firstly Lloyds tried to say they had no records of an account with them so we persisted and then they completely dismissed my claim so we went to the Ombudsman.
Nine months after I started the claim I had a letter last week to advise that I had won £2289.01.
I know it's a long slog but it's worth it just to finally get something back.
Just dont take No for an answer.:j0 -

I think if a credit card company ever suggested they had no records of me holding an account with them, I'd be inclined to find out all monies I ever paid to them (as well as any charges) and ask for the whole lot back.
Well, if I didn't ever have an account with them, then surely they were not entitled to any money?"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
