    Hi
When claiming charges do u need a full breakdown of what youve been charged or can you just send a letter asking for a refund of them and hope the card company will do the calculations!

I have 3 different cards to claim off and dont have full statements of all of them

    Thanks

You need to specify the charges you are asking to be refunded.

The MSE article explains this and also how to obtain those details of charges of you haven't kept the original statements.

For many years I was in the credit tart trap, keeping afloat by transferring debt; but there came a time when I ran out of options and my last swap, to Virgin, was crushing. I somehow managed to balls up the direct debit and the first payment was made late. I’m pretty sure they had told me the DD was still standing from a previous stint with Virgin, but I can’t be sure. They agreed to wave the fee, but took the opportunity to cancel my interest free period. Suddenly there was nowhere else to jump and it cost a lot when I finally paid them off 18 months later.
I can’t prove it was their fault (if indeed it was) – but can anything be done about lost interest-free periods? It was a sort of punishment… If there was any chance, I’d love to stick it to the swine!

Thanks, experts! Please enjoy this rotating Martin :money:
Probably not, especially as you didn't complain about the loss of the interest free period at the time.
I think their terms may even specify that you will lose any perks (such as an interest free period) if you don't make at least the monthly minimum payment on time.

  • Thanks, Premier.
It was in the small print... And ultimately my fault for not ensuring the direct debit was in place... Thanks again for your reply.

Hi folks, wonder if anyone has any info on Morgan Stanley.

I had a Mastercard with them, and I know I incurred charges for late fees and over limit fees. I haven't had the card for about 3 years, and now I can't seem to find any trace of where I need to write to asking for a list of the charges. I wrote to as address I found as the registered office of Morgan Stanley Bank, and have proof of delivery, but have heard nothing back - it's now been about 8 weeks.

Do Morgan Stanley still exist? Have I any chance of reclaiming these charges, or should I just drop this one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Former Morgan Stanley credit cards are now administered by Barclaycard, who I think took over the accounts from Goldfish who originally took over them from Morgan Stanley.

I can't remember the terms of this deal, and so don't know if this included any transfer of closed account's details prior to that date ... but you could ask them and see what they say.

Cheers Premier, I'll give Barclaycard a try. I've been successful in reclaiming from Barclaycard already, so fingers crossed they'll take on the liability for the Morgan Stanley one too!

    Thanks for the info.
  • Hi all.

I've recently decided to reclaim my credit card charges from barclaycard but I didnt have a full list of charges so, as per the martin's advice, sent them a letter with a £10 cheque enclosed. The letter was sent about 2 weeks ago now and the cheques has been cashed but still I have not heard from Barclaycard. When can I expect to hear from them and can they just cash the cheque without actually doing what I have asked? What should my next steps be?

    thank you in advance :0)

They have 40 days to respond to a SAR and most of them tend to leave it right until the last minute. If they still haven't responded in this time period there are template letters you can send them and they can be reported to the fos or the ico.

They are not allowed to not respond, whether they have taken the money or not.

However, they do have 40 days in which to respond.
