Hi guys, this month I didn't have any money in the bank when my minimum repayment DD came out (the money went in a day late :/ my fault really).

I received 3 charges for it, the first was a 'payment reversal' charge of £10.00, then an 'unpaid item charge' of £12.00 which made the card over the limit so I received an 'overlimit charge' of £12.00.

I know none of the charges are over £12 but £34 in total for a missed payment seems a bit excessive.

I don't think there's anything I can do about it but I thought I'd just check on here first.

    Cheers, James.

    Hi everyone,

I followed the instructions in the article and used the templates for the data protection, etc and then wrote to reclaim charges and interest of £488.77. (From Cap 1) I got a letter back from them telling me it will take 4 weeks for them to investigate and get back to me, so just a waiting game for me - it'll be 2 weeks on Wednesday since I received that letter, so a few more weeks to go yet. I wonder if they'll offer me anything!

hi very new to this and not sure how to post. I have sent a letter to capital one requesting my charges back, sent it first class recorded delivery. Just had a phone call again off them asking for money again. I've told them they should have my letter by now and this time they've suggested i ring Specialist Support Unit. I have tried reasoning with capital one but instead of helping me they just want to charge me again and again. Should i ring this specialist support unit and see if they can help? Should i make my minimum payments which might just fall within the 10 days deadline they've given me before they charge me again. Or shall i just wait and see what happens from this letter i sent from the templates this site has provided??? Just really confused please any help or advice would be grateful thanks
    katy

I have recieved a letter from capital one acknowledging receipt of my letter and they say it will take 4 weeks to investigate and if its longer than that they will contact me. Still not sure wether to make a minimum payment to avoid further charges or should i think along the lines of "they've already had enough of my money" and wait for the outcome???

Up to you, but if you don't contact them they certainly won't help you.

As you are aware, failure to make at least the minimum payment will result in you accruing more charges. This may ultimately affect your credit rating resulting in difficulty in obtaining credit for years to come.

Have a read of the MSE guide to reclaiming credit card charges where it explains exactly how to get details of the charges you have incurred including a template letter.

    Thanks Premier,

Probably did not express myself very well on that.

Just concerned as i have read other comments that refer to Aviemore, HFC, Bank of Scotland and also SAV!

Not too aware on how banks operate or how "assets" such as credit card accounts are transferred between different banks and as such who will i will be requesting the refund from.

Logically i imagine that as Bank of Scotland are in the driving seat now i will be taking this up with them.

Tempted to hit them for 33.33% interest on the reclaim since that is what they have hiked the interest rate to on the card now those 'lovely bankers';)
Working towards being debt free by May 2011 under my own steam and then found this website and this may now actually happen by Christmas.

    Super Sweet :p

I put a claim into Capital One for a refund of credit card charges and they have come back with an offer they claim is the difference between the £20 and current £12 charge. Going through the numbers the offer is not correct and falls below what I would expect of a difference. I've gone back to them requesting that they have a look at my case again as the offer isn't even the difference I would have expected, based on the statements they sent me (None of these have fallen outside of the 6yr period before anyone asks). I have had a reply saying they will take a further 4 weeks. Is this correct? I understand a long time frame for the intial query, but surely they don't need another 4 weeks to investigate something they have all the info for. I'm not sure if there are any guidlines that they need to follow once the first 40 days has been allowed. Any advice would be appreciated before I go back to them on this

    Many thanks

The FOS will not consider a complaint until at least 8 weeks have expired since you first advised the company of your complaint (as you obviously don't have a deadlock letter)

Even then, the FOS will probably give a good 4 weeks for the company to respond to them.

So probably best to just await a response direct from the company within the next 4 weeks :)
