Adland exists to make lots of money out of business leaders who obviously think that if it looks pretentious or just plain daft, it attracts interest.

What it actually attracts, is either distaste, contempt or ribaldry.

Ads writers and creators do not live in the real world, but are all under the misapprehension that they do.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • Now bettered by the 'sisters' nonsense.

Who on earth pays the cheque for this dross?

Oh my Lord - there seems to be a whole series of these.

    Brace yourself Rodney....brace yourself.....
  • I hate the Nationwide adverts, and the Natwest and Lloyds ones. I also can't stand the Halifax cartoon ones, and the fact that when I asked on Facebook if the actress in the Top Cat one was one of the Jordache sisters from Brookside, they claimed she had a minor part in the soap, which annoyed me, no idea why!

I used to love those Halifax ones where people became a house etc.

I too dislike the Halifax ads. Not new though as I remember RBS using Top Cat and Dibble in the early 80's. Those were just as irritating then.

The First Direct platypus ad. at least made me pay attention. Daft but good.

Nothing really wrong with the advert as such but the Lloyds bank horse and the tag line "The listening bank"...they didn't listen when we asked them not to shut the last bank in town

That's probably because "The Listening Bank" was Midland.... ;)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKAhwCJFzKI

Oh wait.... they didn't listen much either!

SnowTiger, thank you very much. I cannot believe they are on YouTube. I worked for RBS and remember that when these were launched customers loved them. Thanks to you I've spent time this morning looking for others and found two that got the very worst feedback. Customers said they made them feel uncomfortable and uneasy. I'm not surprised but perhaps they were a bit too ahead of their time:

I didn't mind the Halifax ads. certainly more imaginative than the current crop of bank adverts,

I actively avoid companies who have annoying ads and I suspect I am not the only one. So remembering them does not actually mean the ad has been successful.
Same here. I would never consider double glazing from the shouty man company (can't remember it,so it didn't work on me)

Another, with a good for us ad didn't work either (never used Confused.com). The Brian robot ad with Jump on It music had the family in stitches because, our then toddler granddaughter would leave what she was doing and dance, as soon as the music started. Then the instant it stopped, she stopped and went back to what she was doing (Just as though she was robot)
