Where to find glass jars?

I always find the lids of jars that contained anything other than jam, tend to be impregnated with the aroma of whatever was in them- even after washing/soaking them- e.g. lids of pasta sauce smell garlicy/tomatoey, mint sauce smells minty/vinegary etc
how do you get rid of the smell? (I don't have a dishwasher by the way in case anyone suggest putting thru the DW)
I don't buy ready made pasta sauces or mint sauce so don't have that problem. I only really have small jars from horseradish sauce, mayonnaise and branston pickle which I don't make myself and one run through the dishwasher has always got rid of the smell for me.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. it's not the jars that smell, it's the lids, I already said I don't have a dishwasher and washing the lids and/or soaking in hot soapy water does not get rid of the smell from the lids.0

I must have missed that but the same applies for the lids. I wash them in the dishwasher and they don't seem to smell but like I said maybe we buy different things in jars. Can't help you though as I do have a dishwasher. Sorry I couldn't help.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Don't know if they still do them, or if there's one near you, but I got some small jam jar size kilner jars from ikea a few years back. I find them ideal as they are made from glass and metal so don't harbour smells, and also look nice when making gifts for Xmas pressies.0

It's great, especially since I can easily get through 6-8 at a time when making a batch of jam or chutney. They store well enough for when you need them too. After I've washed everything and put the jars in a cool oven, I boil the lids to make sure they're sterile too.
I have that, too, and egg boxes :j I often get home to find some on my doorstep. Not complaining - they always come in handy.
Have you tried asking on Freecycle?

I just feel like I missing something here on this thread, can someone help? All that I've read about canning always says you can keep the jar but you always need to buy new lids or you won't get a proper seal and you could get botulism.
I just don't believe in the 'just scrape the mold off the top of the jam and continue on' thing is really healthy?? (this is the American in me, sorry).
Please help!!!0
