That's what I used too. Also, the lakeland small lids fit the jars!

pop a box next to your local bottle bank with a sign saying jam jars for jam making please
Someone did this outside the shop I used to work at and the box filled up within a day.

Why not ask friends and family to save their jars for you?.. I did, and within two weeks I had to tell them to stop because I was swimming in them! :D

If you use facebook put a plea on there, my dd gets rid of all her babystuff on there to friends and has received lots back when she has asked for stuff so Im sure someone will have jam/ coffee jars lurking about!

I've just found someone not far from me selling their excess jars on ebay - two big boxes full with lids - starting bid of £3, so not free but its better than buying more from the supermarket! So may be worth a look on there too.

When we did this last year, we ended up with loads of value honey and mint sauce, as those we would actually use. Honey is still going (decanted it into a stupidly large mayo jar) and mint sauce went into plastic tub, got finished quite quickly.

If you buy jam / lemon curd you could make tarts. Don't bake the lemon curd in the pastry though, bake blind and add afterwards. Haven't tried the value lemon curd, but notmal lemon curd is yummy on toast!

Thanks for that tip! I have 2 jars of lemon curd now decanted into mugs in fridge destined to become tarts tomorrow! (and 2 jars of blackberry jam cooling on window sill!)
