How many Amex cards can I get?

I have recently got an Amex card to try. Very impressed so far with the benefits. I got £50 from Quidco, £100 Amazon voucher for spending over £3k (bought some business supplies) and got an extra £15 for registering it on Amazon to use with membership points plus the extra £14 of points from the £3k spend. Phew, so in total around £180 in benefits so I'm very pleased.

The card is an Amex Gold Business Charge Card. It is in my personal name, but with my sole trader business name underneath.

I see from their range they have a whole suite of cards with cashback, points and flight points.

Do Amex allow you to have more than one card per person?

I'm not sure on their limits but I have one company one and 2 personal ones, and haven't had any issues
  • I've presently got three credit cards (Gold, BAPP, SPG). In the past I've had either Gold or Platinum Charge Card plus two credit cards at the same time so assume the limit is at least three.

Two charge cards and two credit cards used to be the limit - I don't know whether Business cards count separately or not.

Which ones are the "credit cards"? I thought they were all Charge (Pay in Full every month) cards
  • As Will states its 2 charge and 2 credit cards at any one time

Charge cards = no credit limit pay off in full
Credit Cards = Credit limit pay off in full or over time

    Their charge cards are:
    • Basic Card
    • 'The American Express Card' (a.k.a. The Green Card)
    • Preferred Rewards Gold Charge Card
    • The Platinum Card (*not* to be confused with the Platinum Cashback cards)
    • Centurion/Black Card (invite only)

Everything else, with the possible exception of the Harrods card if that is still available, is a Credit Card.

That's exactly what I've read, although it was caveated as a 'general rule', whatever that means.

Harrods card is definitely available - it's not listed on the site under 'Cards' but it's around: they have a whole section on their site allocated to it.

The number of cards is undetermined. I have a personal Amex Platinum credit card and a personal Amex green charge card. I have heard that the max is 4 cards but don't quote me on that. The method is to get your first card, build a rapport and then apply for another one and keep doing that until you get declined. Then you will know the maximum.

Both of my Amex cards are unused. The problem with Amex cards is that they suck big-time. No ATM cash advances unless you apply to join their cash advance program and forget about a balance transfer to your Amex even though the monthly interest rate for cash advances and balance transfers are shown on the statement.

Good for building your credibility by wafting your Amex card in public so everyone gets a glance of it but that's about it.

Good for rewards and cashback too. Most people need Amex plus at least one Visa/MC as backup, bit the posts is about "How many" so that should not be too inconvenient for most.
