Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

They can't win, can they? If they do nothing it's 'uncaring Tory Government ' and if they do something right it's because of 'Pressure'.
The right thing has been done and the Government is STILL being slated.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

...and quite rightly so.
The trick for this and the previous Government was to cut the deficit without unduly affecting performance. Our prisons are in crisis and crime is rising. Any bunch of idiots can cut costs, the other half of the conundrum is the difficult part.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

So they can do nothing right because everything isn't right? You have to take a journey to arrive at your destination, you can't just arrive there without travelling.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Any bunch of idiots can ignore problems by endlessly increasing borrowing.
Imo the line should have been drawn last autumn, but as ever with the balance between cost saving and performance, the tories don't know when to stop while labour haven't even got a clue where to start.0 -

I don't recall the up front admission that performance would suffer as a result of austerity. Instead we got (and still do) constant denials and exercises in obfuscation, our services would be more efficient and delivery would not be effected they said. You should expect better performance from our Government.
I took them at their word, was I wrong to?“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Maybe it is being judged on what it has done in the past rather than what it now plans to do.
Whether what they are doing right is questionable since Ministers have been saying quite recently that public sector pay is still too high. Maybe they are just caving in to pressure?
Of course the contrary view is that austerity has been one of the biggest confidence tricks ever inflicted by the wealthy on the poor and by free lending banks on the nation as a whole; and by the profligate on the prudent.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
