I loved the first paragraph in the piece......The problem with people who bring religion to their politics is that they’re obsessed with sex. It’s never “I’m a devout Anglican, therefore I couldn’t possibly vote for a cap on social security payments (Acts 4:34).” When a politician’s potted history starts “a committed Christian”, you can bet this isn’t a prelude to a CV full of redistributive tax policies. It’s all sodomy and foetuses''....excellent!

In fairness, JRM rarely mentions it, and it only came out when he was asked directly by an interviewer and at least he was honest about his religious beliefs (try getting certain religious people to admit such things), Ironically its the Graun that keeps bringing it back up, this is the 4th article about it in the last month of two, perhaps they are obsessed with sex....or just obsessed with clickbate, no wonder they spend their whole time begging for "the price of a cup of coffee" at the bottom of their articles. Serious Journalism? give me a break/

Zoe Williams is disgusting, and has been pointed out numerous times in the forum of that ridiculous piece of journalism, what is the Catholics position on Gay marriage then? ...I will give you a hint...exactly the bloomin same :)

I don't really agree with Ress Mogg on his stance on this issue, but I respect his honesty, and that he respects he is one opinion against many.

You've pretty much missed the whole point of the article. It's about JRM (and others) selectively using religious beliefs to support some of their views, but not others. And these views being largely based on their (and not the churches) homophobia or misogyny.

Unless you believe JRM also wants to stop people eating meat on Friday, or bring in supertaxes to reduce the risk of rich men being unable to enter heaven.

She has no idea what his view are on many other topics, and neither do I, and neither do you to be frank.
He obviously has his own beliefs, that do influence him, but as he has stated he has just one view in a sea of many, and respects the rights of others (democracy).

What I take offense to is her ad hominem, and typical one sided tunnel vision and faux hysteria, but then again if you want a job in the Guardian, I guess its part of the deal.

The only thing more pathetic than the people who write for The Guardian are the people who endlessly quote from it.

The very definition of smug liberal pseudo-intellectuals sneering at anybody who disagrees with their opinion.

Nope, they are the most open minded, liberal, compassionate, caring, decent, reasonable, rational and intelligent people in the world.

As long as you agree with them.

Any links about him that aren't from a rag hell bent on a smear campaign about him?

I'm not defending him, just not trusting them.

One can only wonder if there reaches a point at which even Tory supporters start to feel ashamed of themselves.

Some sanctimonious filthy rich toff who has never done a day of anything that most of us would identify as work, is glibly telling the proles that poverty is uplifting because it gives them the opportunity to support charities.

I take it you are more in favor of a Labour Government more famous for pigeon holing everyone into a cynical victim status of one demographic or another in a trade off for an easy vote grab as they fight the good fight against an evil regime.
Labours tactic is seems is breeding a 'can't win don't try' attitude, cementing peoples mindset that they don't have the tools to help themselves and everything is pitted against them, no self determination, no self respect no thinking for themselves, no pulling them selves up by the boot strings, no self responsibility needed, no self goals, just a dose of cynicism and self pity, just victims of a ruthless state, Kind of ironic considering how much they talk about supporting and empowerment.

Labour loves poverty and misery, that where they traditionally get their base from while len mcclusky on his six figure salary soldiers them on, and Dianne Abbot sows the seeds of multicultural division.

No but, Corbyn is " is different" they say!...Turns out he wasn't, I am not a huge JRM fan, but at least he is honest about his religious views however unpopular, trying asking Corbyn about his nuke position or IRA, he flips and flops like a fish on a river bank.
No but " The manifesto, it's fully costed, JC is different"...well until after the elections then it turned out the whole student fees thing was a con, what skill does it take to bribe people.

I have little love for the Tories, but less for those that actually believe their own party are better.
