  • i think we can all see how well it works out when a leader is elected based on his personal 'cult' following, and for being a big joke.

    Did you mean: Donald Trump

I don't disregard them; I disagree with them - a subtle difference even you might see.
It would indeed be a subtle difference were it true but you immediately contradict that in your post, with:
I suspect because you feel the need to defend anyone wearing blue Y fronts and think I need to defend labour in the same way. You couldn't be further from the truth.
Does that "anyone wearing blue Y fronts" then not disregard previous posts of mine saying that I'm not a fan of Theresa May - although she probably doesn't wear Y-fronts, eh?

Maybe you'll say you have not seen that - yet you follow my posts quite closely, don't you? ;)

We should be free to criticize any religious ideology, as long as we don't target individuals.

Why? Individuals who espouse repugnant religious ideologies should expect to be criticised for it.

not one person has answered exactly what makes him qualified?

The only qualification people need to be elected, is the ability to persuade people to vote for them.
Democracy is a flawed system as people are not very good at voting for people that give them the best outcome.

it's been a while since i read the bible but doesn't it say that christ will forgive your sins and you should not judge (as only god can judge) and love thy neighbour?

I am the first to admit I don't know much about politics or even this particular politician. However I know he has had the courage to state his beliefs in a calm considered way. In a country where you currently can't say anything without being shot down and accused of being some sort of racist / homophobic / xenophobic / sexist / anti Semite / fat hater, I think he has shown courage. People usually lambaste politicians for not telling the truth! You can't win!
Also merely disagreeing with something ( so long as done peacefully and with respect) is not a crime. We should be pleased we have the right to express our opinions as many in the world don't. Also - disagreeing with something doesn't automatically make you a ' phobe' of some sort. Look at the equalities act. You can't treat someone less favourably because of a protected characteristic but it isn't required under law that you have to 'believe' certain things. Believes are personal. I have a gay colleague. He is really nice, great at his job, kind, funny etc I don't dislike him in any way. Id be genuinely upset if he were treated badly or any less favourably because he is gay. However I still don't believe that gay marriage should be allowed. I don't think that makes me homophobic.

So it's fine for him to be gay, something that is genetic and which he has no control over whatsoever, as long as he makes up for it by being, 'really nice, great at his job, kind funny etc' and you'd be upset if him being gay made him treated less favourably, you just don't want him to be able to express his commitment to a life partner in the same way as heterosexual people because... because what?

If you think you aren't homophobic then you need to go and look at what the definition of homophobic actually is.

For what it's worth, Jacob Rees Mogg doesn't think he's homophobic either. He also doesn't think he's a misogynist, an elitist class baiter, a misanthrope or a self entitled xenophobic autocrat.

It says that, it also says that homosexuals should be stoned to death, women treated like chattel, the only way to answer an insult is by retaliating at the same level, and you mustn't eat shellfish.

As interesting as it is I don't think it is a great manual for life, unless you ignore the bits your moral compass tells you are wrong and only listen to the bits about turning the other cheek that people who aren't religious somehow seem to know anyway.

Unfortunately this doesn't make you a good Christian. The Christian faith is very clear that the bible is the word of God and no interpretation or revision is acceptable.

Those of us firmly out of the predictions game can merely enjoy the show, and nothing would make me shriek with laughter so much as the Tories doing what Edmund Burke famously termed “losing their !!!!!!” and alighting on Rees-Mogg as the man. Actually, hang on – there is something funnier: the fact that he was reported everywhere this week to have “overtaken” Boris Johnson as preferred next leader in polls of Tory members.

I do love that “overtaken”, reminding you that this is all basically some meth-assisted take on The Tortoise and the Hare. Think of it as The Tortoise and the Hair, perhaps, with the tortoise twirling a silver-topped walking cane as he makes his triumphant advance.
  • Oh look, Moby posts an opinion piece from the leftist Graudian decrying JRM.
    What a surprise!
It must be a sign that the haters are scared.
