However I still don't believe that gay marriage should be allowed. I don't think that makes me homophobic.

    Why?

My general rule of thumb is if a belief, action or behaviour doesn't cause a negative impact to others then what's the problem?

Its my religious belief that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman. Millions of Christians, Jews and Muslims the world over also share this view so I'm not some weird minority.
Sure have a civil partnership. why should a devoted couple not be allowed to ? Of course they should. However its my personal belief that marriage is for a man and woman but, if a gay couple decide to get married that's fine. I may not agree with the principle but I wouldn't want to deny them happiness and its not my place to tell someone to do something / not do something either. I totally accept everyone's right to an opinion and can still get on well with someone even if we share different views. Actually maybe the problem in the world today is not that people have differing views, but the fact they can't accept other peoples right to a different one?

Do you believe everything the bible says or just the bits you are comfortable with? I'm not being aggressive or argumentative, I just find this stuff fascinating.

Also, in what way do you differentiate between marriage and civil partnership? They are basically the same. Marriage doesn't mean religious.

I think JRM is a thoroughly decent chap who does his very best to acclimatise himself into the 21st century whilst living with the values of the 19th.As ever such people sometimes find themselves out of touch with the thinking of the present.

But I cannot see any reason to claim JRM is unsuited to be PM. After all the office has been occupied by people who have hypocritically espoused Christian values while covertly committing adultery while married.

As to the issue that caused it there are many who find such behaviour repulsive but would defend the rights of others to behave in that way in private.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

My concern is that he might seek to impose his vintage views on the rest of us. As soon as the Conservative party is robust that it is liberal, tolerant etc & won't let the top dog bite, he may shift from being an intriguing figure for panel shows into a possible PM, but I'm dubious.
    Nominate a tolerant hypocrite instead?

Oh look, Moby posts an opinion piece from the leftist Graudian decrying JRM.
    What a surprise!
It must be a sign that the haters are scared.

Me too. Sums them up perfectly and will turn off 80% of the electorate overnight.

    Labour win.

It will never happen as well you know - and this explains why so much better than taking up more space here:
The interview marked the end of a silly season story which deserved to die. Because Mr Rees-Mogg was never going to be Conservative leader.
Rather like Boris Johnson, Mr Rees-Mogg adds to the gaiety of the nation but is not to be taken seriously.

Imagine standing in the ballot box in May 22 or sooner and having to choose between:
Vot red for a country that resembles Venezuela
Vote blue for a country that resembles Russia
    I think....
