Has "professional" decorator used the wrong type of paint?

Yet we can't actually specify what the problem is! But considering that it seems to make you feel better to blame 'workmen', blame them.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Where in the kitchen in the paint? If you don't have a splash back and it's behind the hob or sink, I'd perhaps expect a decorator to suggest something quite resilient for paint (but I do usually tell tradesmen I don't know what is best so they'll give me their opinion), but if you do have a splash back so the paint isn't in the normal splash zone, I wouldn't expect them to suggest anything and would expect them to use standard emulsion.
Fortunately - I've got one of those huge splashbacks going right up the wall behind my cooker - whew! The rest of the worksurfaces just have that modern idea of the worktop (ie Silestone in my case) continuing up the walls for a 10 cm height - rather than tiles. So there is risk of food splashes going up the walls in between that 10 cm worth and the wall cupboards. The kitchen was in situ at the time the workman did the job.
The area concerned is fortunately a bit more "out of sight" than other parts of the wall and is underneath a bit of the worktop. So the area concerned is the one most likely to get splashes on it - and it often does. A noticeable amount of wall is at risk of splashes - due to the low 10cm high worktop-wall edging. Quick aside - no, I won't be having tiles - as I was glad to see it's current fashion to have kitchens without them and decided not to.0 -

Thanks for the thought and I do land up "recycling" all sorts of chuck-outs from my house one way and another. But I wouldn't want to take the risk of landing someone with the paint - just in case they had problems with it too.0 -

My point was not that some people like washing walls, it was that there is no reason why you need to have 'kitchen paint' in kitchens; it doesn't automatically go that a decorator should be putting kitchen paint on the walls when regular emulsion is perfectly good. It clearly is marketing spin if people are making assumptions that their decorator is no good if they don't buy it.
I see where you are coming from now:D Yes, that is absolutely ridiculous isn't it.
It is a bit like my OH wanting to buy specific bathroom and kitchen cleaners, when all you need is dilutable Flash (other brands - usually the cheapest will work just as well - are available).0 -

I wonder if it is a duff batch indeed - hmm...
I guess, like many other things, there are knock-offs of well-known brands going and the like.
I remember a slightly different thing some years back of when I bought own brand soft peach paint from B & Q. It most definitely said peach on the tin. I was painting the room concerned myself - and feeling very puzzled that it looked pink to me as I painted, and thinking I'd leave it to dry overnight and it would surely dry as peach.
Come the next day - yep...still quite definitely pink:mad: - and I hate pink. Cue for having to buy paint again - this time not an own brand.
I believe B & Q withdrew that range of own brand paints - as lots of people had complained their paint wasn't the colour the customer had bought.
EDIT; found reports online of fake Dulux paint - but it was 2013 and in China.0 -
Now it is complicated, and fashion has demanded everything be matt type finishes.
Oh poo... I'm either well behind with the times or ahead of the next "fashion". Just finished my kitchen walls with a lemon yellow polished plaster. Soaped and waxed, it has come up quite shiny and has been a breeze to wipe clean so far.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

We bought a B&Q light green paint to paint our sun room and my office. I tried to like it, I really did..... but it looked like a public convenience. 5 coats of Barley White it took to cover it up and in some places even now there's just a hint of green where we obviously didn't get quite enough paint on.Make £2025 in 2025

Paint doesn't just flake off when it's wiped, regardless of what type it is. If it's not stuck to the paint underneath it's because it's been put on by a cowboy who didn't prepare the surface adequately before painting.0
