Has "professional" decorator used the wrong type of paint?

I recently employed a decorator for the first time in my long life. Then I employed a different one because the first one was useless. The second one was brilliant.
In your case I'd show the new decorator the problem & see what he says.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

I have Matt paint in my kitchen and I know exactly what I'm doing.
I also employ top decorators and they wouldn't have a problem with matt paint in the kitchen either.
It's not a big deal. I don't see why a single person would need an apparantly harder wearing paint. Kitchen paint doesn't look great either and I think walls, in older houses particularly, are better left to breathe without plasticky coatings. I'm aftaid I don't offer my clients the choice unless they ask for it.
Whatever your flaking problem is, it isn't the type of paint used. It's a good branded matt paint.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

This is rather what I'm wondering.
This other decorator did a small job in my house - also specified as "Dulux Jasmine White" and I've just hoicked out leftover paint from that job and the can says "Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell" and "repeatably wipeable eggshell".
So I'm now thinking to tell Decorator 2 to sand the relevant section of kitchen wall and repaint it with that leftover paint and keeping my fingers crossed that I won't notice any difference in colour or surface appearance - but, being a different type of paint, this time it will be okay?0 -

Single yes - but I reckon I probably "wear a kitchen hard":rotfl:. I am quite a keen cook/not keen on housework though.
This house is 1970s, pretty typical construction for this area of those concrete block walls throughout inside and exterior.
The one thing that I wonder if it might be affecting it is another **** workman that I employed to replaster the house throughout originally and then repaint it didnt do a mist coat of paint in between the new plaster and the (Dulux) paint that I had put on the walls by him. I subsequently realised he should have....0 -
Eggshell is different to Matt. It will definitely look different.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Has the first coat come off as well, back to plaster?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

No it hasnt. I can see the original Dulux Jasmine White underneath this Dulux Jasmine White.0 -
Eggshell is usually used on woodwork. I think it can be used on walls, but I don't think it's that common.
I wonder if the Matt paint hasn't keyed to it. Matt wouldn't key to Satinwood, for example, but I don't know about eggshell.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I think the original paint used back when by original workman was matt and that wasnt a problem in that respect. I was just having a cheapie repaint of kitchen at that point - whilst I waited to have the new kitchen I have had put in this year.
I'm guessing that a darn hard sand of this particular bit of wall, followed by repainting just that bit might suffice? I think I might have to just grit my teeth and have a slightly different paint effect there from using a bit of that leftover eggshell there. Fortunately, it's a little bit darker/more out of the way bit of kitchen iyswim (ie underneath a worksurface). A bit that's likely to get dirt splashes on it at intervals - as that's where I keep my kitchen bin and "accidents happen".
For the rest of the kitchen - I think I'm going to land up hardly daring to breathe on those walls for 5-10 years - ie until I am due to get it redecorated anyway (courtesy of doing a kitchen every few years - because it is a kitchen).
Shame it's not really possible to think in terms of being a bit "folky" and doing any paint effect or the like stuff. But I have had a very 21st century kitchen/with Silestone worktops/etc done - so no folkiness then...0
