I also got a thingy thru the post from Boots for 1000 points if i have an eye-test. I'm due one, but would prefer a free one instead! Cant decide what to do..
i assume you have a boots advantage card, so if you join their health club, they will send you a voucher for a free eye test, but it can take a little while for the paperwork to come through.
alternatively, the eye test will cost you £20 (if i recall correctly). 1000 is worth £10 to spend in boots. are there toiletries you need for your boy? or could you stock up on toothpaste/shampoo/tampons etc, to save you money off of your normal shopping?
if you dont urgently need an eye test and havent already joined the health club, i would say go down that route. by law, they have to give you a copy of your prescription after the test, but you are not obliged to buy glasses form them. you could always then go look somewhere cheaper for the glasses. i got new glasses recently, and found specsavers to be the cheapest on the high st. that said, there are loads of online companies now who sell glasses very cheaply. if you do decide to get new glasses from boots, dont forget to look out for the money off coupon on the advantage card machine - i cant remember whether it was for more or the same amount as the one in the mailing.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Hello Bartgirl,
I'm a working mum too and i am also saving for my break for freedom! I've got a diary on here because i want to be debt free by the end of the year. If i can do that then i can leave the following summer with enough to put down a small deposit on a mortgage.
My OH is also a psendaholic and is mostly the reason i am in debt...... hence why i want to leave.
I don't really post much personal stuff on here but i just wanted to say i'm in the same boat as you and it sounds like you are doing fantastically well.:TTotal debt at LB Moment (Nov 2007) = £6583 £4649 20.03.09
£5060 Black horse Loan - £4114 as of 20.03.09
£940 o/d with hsbc - -£535 as of 20.03.090 -
I am a memeber of the Boots health club but dont remember receiveing a voucher for a free eye test.
Right now i'm in need of a new prescription cos my last test was in the summer..i'm still shopping around, not in any particular hurry...
I disappointed myself and spent £19 in aldi today - when i was only meant to be nipping in for bread, milk etc and meant to spend a fiver!
However most of what i bought was fruit and veg on special offer - which means i neednt go to the market this weekend so i guess it kind of works out??
Its half-term and I mentioned to OH that i'd like to do something with DS like go to museum etc and he said he was skint - coould we wait till month end? I said nothing..cos i know if i put my foot down and insist we go, then it'll be me forking out for everything. So I've decided i'll aim for today and tomorrow NS days and on Sat i'm meeting a friend and taking her kids+mine out for the day. I reckon worst case scenario i'll spend a tenner. But not necessarily. Lets see..
Other than that, I've got enough indoors in terms of food for us all, veg, yoghurts etc, nappies..the lot..so i'm hoping to spend little till pay day.
Nothings happening on my Ebay except for an increase in watchers. I plan to add a few more to the listing tomorrow p.m., cos i'm keen to ensure that I try to get as close to my £500 savings target for this month. I know its not likely I'll hit it, but shall be pleased with whatever I get.CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

I've listed another 4 items on ebay now - which makes it 11 items ending this weekend. I'm really hoping that i can make at least £50 on there this week. My target monthhly is to make an extra £500 and i know that its unlikely that \i'll hit that this month - but i'm determined to try my damndest to get close - its my 1st month and didnt expect to have anything in savings - let alone what i do have..
The OH walkd in this eve and declared that between him and poverty he's only got £1.36 left till payday next week. I told him I've got £8. Which is true. The rest is somewhere he's unaware of. Which i'm so pleased about, cos should he try and check my balance thats what it'll say..£8 in credit !! In the not so distance past, i'd have been quick to shove a wad of cash in his hand to see him thru the next few days - but my focus has shifted now, and i'm totally focussed on my target - to not bother lining his lousy pockets with casha hahahahahahar
I may use £10 from my savings, but that'll be to tide me over until i get paid on Fri next week. Plus am taking DS out on Sat with a friend who'll be giving me professional advice on how to handle the situation with my OH.
I'll need to do a meal plan too - to ensure that i dont touch anything additional from my savings..but I'm determined to have another NS day tomorrow as i have done today.CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

I'm so excited about ebay..only got bids worth a tenner but its something!!
I also have 14 watchers. 11 items on ebay, 2 got bids so far; with half ending on Sat and the rest on Sun. If I make £ 50 I'll be overjoyed but i'm not holding my breath..
Not a NS day but a LSD = low spend day£ 4 in Aldi - eggs, bread, cheese, veggies.
I've been thru the freezer and we've prob got enough to keep us going till Wed - so i need those items to keep our heads above water, basically...
I made 'brunch' with the last of the sausages, cheese omlette, toast, mushrooms and baked beans. The OH wasnt overly impressed, and was shoving his fork all over the plate while DS and I scoffed it all up!!
So far today's been quite productive - cleared out the last bits of DSs room-to-be; and only OHs rubbish's left in there. Its helped me ear-mark items which shall be going straight onto Ebay - including DSs cot - cos he's going into a bed now. Also a travel system and various other bits of furniture which we're no longer using.
I'm hoping OH comes home late tonight - after I'm asleep - cos he's started complaining about me concentrating too much on the home and being a 'home-maker' as opposed to being a sexy mama. He said I used to be busy wearing negligee's indoors but now i'm too busy being a mother..i just laughed at him and said that that is because I am a mother. He just cant get over the fact that I plan days out etc with my DS and truly enjoy it - and now could care less as to whether / not OH is there or not!!!but i know that he's indirectly telling me that tonight he's going to be coming onto me

Half of what i had ending on ebay sold - got me roughly 40 quid. Still got a handful of stuff thats meant to end today. So if i can make an extra tenner - that'd be fab!
In true MSE style; i'm recylcing jiffy bags i'd saved from stuff i'd bought off Ebay last yearwith it coming up to the end of the month i'm proper skint so wouldnt be able to go buy new ones anyway at this stage...
I didnt have a no-spend day yesterday..i spent 99p on chips for DS after our trip to feed the ducks in the park yesterday. I nicked a tenner out of my savings account - this'll hopefully last me till payday on Fri  i hope.. still need to do a meal plan for rest of week. I've already listed what we've got in so should be able to get on with it quite easily.
Here's hoping ebay'll be a success tonight!!
Mollymop: i've not seen much of OH in the p.m.'s..he's hanging out with his girlfriend - i think she's giving him cash now cos i know for a fact that he's skint...CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

:j although only half my stuff sold on ebay - I've made about £45 on there!!! If I include postage costs, it'll be closer to £55. Got 2 international bidders too!!
So straight to post office after work then, and i'm hoping that i'm paid asap so i can transfer it all into my savings account.
I've listed stuff on Amazon for the first time. Apparently not all my books can go on there so the rest shall go onto Ebay at some point.
I made a fish stew for dinner - with beans and rice; the OH gobbled it all up. I told him I'm skint so we'll be on beans on toast sooner or later..he looked very worried
Have cleared out DSs room now - only OHs junk left in there.
I'm feeling positive and happy that things seem to be on track as a whole..
