Spendy day today as predicted. Hair done (£40) and topped up the veg and eggs. Also posted 3 eBay parcels.

Tomorrow I have a hospital appt in Glasgow but if I take food and the only spend is travel then I'll claim it as a NSD. I can claim back the travel this time apparently.

Room turnaround for tonight after a 4 nighter. It's getting a bit colder so I decided to put the second half of the all seasons duvet on to make the winter one. Blimey, thought it was going to be simple but it's sooooo bulky cos its a down/feather one. I think it's needed though as the heating won't be fixed for another 8 days (yes I am counting)

    So still at 11 NSD

    Beauty spends - 40/10 (oops)

    Heating - still off

    Shopping - still on budget

Me time - masterchef and crochet :D

Exercise - duvet wrestling and a walk

Have a lovely evening scrimpers, two thirds of the way through :T

  • Everyone is doing so well

I've totted up food spends so far -VERY close to budget. We're off next week and I hope being at home will mean smaller food shop as won't need pack-up stuff. We have enough food in freezer and being at home will mean we can use bits up.

Yesterday and today have both been NSD - quite pleased I've managed 4 on the trot. Just need to keep at it!!

I'm grateful for the fact is has not rained today and was rather pleasant. I love Autumn and today felt very autumnal.

Only bought a YS 4 pack of posh tinned chopped tomatoes in tomato juice for £1. Will complement the pantry contents, which are starting to look quite sparce. I always get a bit panicky once it starts thinning out in there. Needs to be cleared out now the seasons have changed.

Masses of laundry done and mostly line dried then a quick 15 minutes in the dryer for waistbands.

All food from stores and lunchboxes for tomorrow sorted without any top ups necessary, going to try and hold out til Friday before spending anything.

Going back to the gym tomorrow, need to get back into the 'drop kids at school then go to the gym' routine. Weight creeping up, needs firmly stomping on.

Have made a list of things that need doing that I can do without spending any money (hoovering my car/ trimming hedge/ putting up coat hooks / wallpaper that I have already bought) It is actually getting to be quite a long list. Yay!

So there, and I found a recent Jilly Cooper book in a charity shop for 20p over the summer holidays and have put it in my car as my waiting about at the school gates book. Using up my book stash before buying anymore. Down to about 15 left. Should see me until December.

    Day 20/30
    Managed a SFD today :)
All food from home, also did some cooking for the next few days as we are going away in our camper van (site was booked and paid for before the start of this challenge). This will most likely be our last trip away for this year, as it is getting chilly now  May or may not need to buy some fuel while we are away, and we will need a few extra food bits, but intending to do it on the cheap, as usual :)
Made an oxtail casserole, cooked a ham joint and made an apple cake to take with us. This will be to share with our DD and family who are coming along in their caravan :) All this made from food I already have.
    Apart from that:
No heating, washing dried on line outside :)
    No social spends
Chopped and froze some lemons, and also a cabbage that won't get used and would have gone off before we get back :)
Sliced and dehydrated a large apple and a pear, also today's picking of raspberries. I must pack these away in jars in a minute :)
Not much exercise today though, only managed a dog walk. Hoping for lots of walking over the next few days while we are away :)
  • Happy anniversary thrifty and Mr thrifty!

I looked in the £ emporium for glucosamine and calcium tablets today (separate, not a combined mix!) And they had no supplements whatsoever, which did surprise me. Does anyone have any ideas of cheap sources of vits and mins?

Today I am grateful for a good walk, for getting over 20,000 steps, for a decent day at work, for getting some paperwork done, for a good journey home, for dh cooking tea, for good friends, for my delightful dd, for some joyous fabric to use for bunnies, for dd sharing her favourite poems from a book.

A little bit disappointed in myself today. Very tired, found it hard to get started but made it to crafts. Two new people and an old man who sometimes attends - he can hardly walk and doesn't speak very often but he loves colouring and he's neater than I am. There was a meeting in the room with the supplies cupboard so sevral items I left last week were unavailable. Bit of a rush trying to find the things people needed and had to destroy a perfectly good box as my cardboard was in the cupboard but it all worked out in the end and everyone was happy with what they made.

Meant to do something when I got home but fell asleep reading a book and in the middle of a computer game with someone else.

Today I am grateful for being able to make craft supplies from 'rubbish', for the things we have been gifted - still not been able to look through properly and don't know what everything is for but it looks good and there are little surprises. Really truly grateful for the cooking i managed to do on Sunday as I woke from my 'nap' hungry and remembered I had left one portion of mash and three sausages in the fridge. Done in the microwave for 5 minutes and filled a corner. Going to have an early night and hope I wake bright eyed and bushy tailed (very grateful that I am so much better than last week - Vitamin D is helping, bananas are helping, watercress is helping, not sure fence post painting and traipsing all over large hospitals is helping but such is life).

Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs thrifty.

I found the Wilco vitamin D was much cheaper than other places (about a tenth of the H&B price) and they seem to be helping. Don't think they had loads of supplements but it's worth a look to see what they do have. Some old people mags and newspapers sometimes have a page of 'bulk buy' supplements at bargain prices - don't know about the quality but might be worth looking in your local library as ours has piles of the newspaper for free - aimed at over fifties but quite well written. Saga magazine is also well written and interesting (someone donated a pile to the church once). Lots of regular contributors like Keith Waterhouse.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

Apple I get mine from aldee, my aldee does about 10 different types and I'm sure one of them is calcium and vitamin D.

    Thrifty happy anniversary

    SFD number 13 today :)

Exercise was dog walking and generally walking at work.

Today I was grateful for the dry weather and nice work men.

    Check in #20/30
    NSD still at 13/18

Spreadsheet updated which gives me a monthly/cumulative picture so will be doing a six-monthly review at the end of September. Can already see gaps in allocated pots and need to think about where each spend sits for the remainder of the financial year.

Leftovers for lunch, casserole for dinner with enough to carry forward for later in the week.

Social life gone quiet though trying to arrange to meet up with a couple of friends but this will involve travel.
