The net payments played a big part in Brexit and they will possibly play a big part in future discontent in EU members
Either farming should not be so heavily subsidized or some portion of the EU budget should come from a contribution based on land area. Of course the losers from this system will cry foul
This thread is about Brexit. Not how we got here or how bad the EU has been or is now or will be in the future. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
What a curious view, of course it was always going to be a torturous slanging match. As has been pointed out the EU need to make this appear as difficult and vexatious as possible to deter other would be leavers.
It's all part of the game and what I expted.
Once German elections out the way I suspect more meaningful progress can be made, but still fraught and heated. For now Merkel needs to be able to paint her electorate the picture of the EU, and by extension her Govt being in full command talking down to the UK dog.
Sorry, I could not find your post where you predicted this. I got the, obviously wrong, impression you thought this would all be very simple.
Sorry for calling you out but frankly even the most pessimistic of posters never said that it would get so messy. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Which is why net contributions are the only stat worth bothering with. Subsidising the small holdings of French car workers by UK citizens is coming to an end thankfully.

No surprises. No one is genuinely surprised. Why would they be?
I thought to myself, surely know one will alledge this is what was expected that there is no surprise.
Well I was wrong. You are now the second poster who "knew" it would be like this,
Those with second sight are blessed.
Perhaps you could name the winner tomorrow of the 3 o'clock race at Chepstow? There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Is Thruglemir saying he/she "knew" or merely not surprised at the current state of the negotiations?“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
OK Rusty,
This is Brexit related.
Politico have a piece describing the four days of talks in Brussels. Quite a bit of fun really.

This for example.
The Brits often get about town in minibuses, and are urged not to take public transport to avoid running into inquisitive journalists or leaving sensitive documents on the metro. So careful are they that sometimes British negotiators are transported the 300 meter hop from UKRep (the country’s EU embassy), around the Schuman roundabout to the Berlaymont. “We need to avoid journalists, the rain, and the Russians,” one of the British team joked about the Brits’ fondness for being chauffeured everywhere they go.
Or this
Wednesday afternoon: Off-the-record briefing
It was off the record, so we can’t tell you when, where or what was said by whom. But rest assured: if we know it, you’ve already read it on POLITICO.
Yes these are posted links but anyone interested in Brexit should read the article......some of it might be true! There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

None of what you have posted is relevant to Brexit but the most interesting bit is headed Tuesday 12.30pm.
Mark Bowman expertly dissected the EU's position on the Brexit bill causing fury and disbelief. At least he did his homework properly unlike the unprepared EU.0
