Hi jellycat,
I've merged your thread with an older one on green tomatoes as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Hi all,
Your recipes look good, I made 12 jars of Keith Floyd's green tom chutney recipe (google it!) to go in christmas hampers last week, his is nice, but I didn't use a muslin bag for the ginger and chillie, I just chopped then in, cos I like it spicy!
Recipe was very easy. My two top tips for an even easier life:
buy tinned unsweetened apples (already peeled cored and sliced)
Wash jars and lids in dishwasher, and bottle up as soon as cycle ends (no need for faffy sterilising!):T
hope that's of use!

I'm doing a freezer inventory and have a bag of green tomatoes that I froze intending to make them into chutney. However, as last year wasn't the best summer to ripen tomatoes, I have more than I can possibly use, so wondered if anyone has a recipe to use them in?
I've seen the thread What can I do with green tomatoes?, but was wondering if anyone has any recipes that aren't chutney?
Many thanks, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Hi Penny,
Thanks for bringing this up...I still have a bag of green tomatoes in the freezer that need using up that I'd forgotten.
I had a look on google and found these:

I have just cooked these and they are my new favourite food. If you all have loads of green tomatoes and don't want to make chutney. I googled fried green tomatoes and there is a video on how to make them.
Slice green tomatoes fairly thickly
place on rack salt them to drain of some of the moisture
coat with self raising flour
coat with beaten egg
coat with a mixture of equal amounts of sr flour and cornflour mixed with plenty of pepper some salt and some paprika
fry in oil gently till brown both sides

Hi longhill,
There's an earlier thread that might help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
