I think it's likely that you wouldn't get your "free" nuts if another passenger advised the airline that they have a nut allergy.

That wasn't the point, it was to whoever said you don't get them anymore.

Er - that would be me then:

It's been a long time since "free" nuts were given out when you bought a drink on board.

And I still think you wouldn't get your nuts (or nut products - free or not, with a drink or not) if another passenger advised the airline that they have a nut allergy.

And isn't that what you were venting about in the first place?
  • On the subject of allergies and deaths in the UK, there appear to be around 10 of these each year. Nut allergies are not counted separately. So some of the talk I would say is exaggerated. More to the point, I would further garner that these deaths are probably not bought on by a packet of nuts suddenly opened on an aircraft, but more likely the refined nut oils, and other emulsions and glycerine, used in most processed foods found in the cheap end of the market. Only recently has there been instances of processed eggs from Europe mass produced for comfort foods packets such as salads and only at the weekend, further detriment to importing foods such as pork products, used on the frozen cheese on toast slices, known to you as pizzas.

Maybe if we open our eyes to this and processing, and we have all seen the label, this product is produced in a factory where nuts are also processed on the wrapper, we would see more carp that is emulsified on our foods.

Remember these emulsions and things should be for the walls of your home, not your arteries!

And as long as we have the emporiums pushing out comfort foods, the general public will remain ignorant!

Correct, because I probably don't eat nuts from one month to the next, but I'd bet that some folk look forward to their "free" nuts when on a flight.

    I prefer the pretzels myself.

At least in a restaurant you can call an ambulance, in a plane, you're stuck. It must be an absolutely terrifying way to die.

I love a packet of nuts with a beer or wine on a plane. If I knew there was someone on board with a severe nut allergy then I wouldn't even dream of eating them, who could be so cruel?

I don't think they should be banned as I've never had such an announcement on any flight, but there should be strict rules if such an announcement is made.

It does surprise me that people with a severe reaction to nuts choose to put themselves at such potential risk by eating out or travelling by plane.

For years, I suffered from an extremely delicate stomach and used to get food poisoning on virtually every foreign holiday when others were fine. After being hospitalised in Malta, I decided that, in future, I would only cook my own food while on holiday. That meant self catering and not eating out. I have to admit that my partner of the time wasn't particularly happy, but it did the trick.

Or Malaysian, or Singapore. They both practically force feed you peanuts.

No, I'm not actually that stupid, but why would anybody with such a severe allergy put themselves in that position?
