Twice recently I've been on a plane and there has been an announcement about a passenger with a nut allergy, so they won't be selling any products that may contain nuts.
Why should 180 other people have to suffer because of one person?
The sufferer should either take the risk, or charter their own private transport.
In future I'm going to take my own peanuts to eat on the plane.

If you were to open a packet of nuts, which then killed someone a few seats from you would you not feel the least bit guilty? I'm not entirely sure of the legalities of this but I wouldn't be surprised to see such a person go to court on a manslaughter charge so even if you didn't feel guilty I'm sure a few years in prison might affect your life enough to care.

I give it a few years max before nuts are banned on all flights so it really won't be much of a debate anymore.

ITV's This Morning has done a poll about taking nuts on planes.
76% of 15,200 people say people should be banned from taking nuts onto planes.

They ran a segment with someone who suffered a severe reaction to nuts (in a restaurant, not on a plane) and has suffered life changing issues - severe brain injury.

Now that is the real meaning of the word, z1a - not having to sit for several hours on a plane without being able to eat nuts.
Amy sustained severe brain damage due to the lack of oxygen her body received as she suffered a cardiac arrest brought on an anaphylactic shock.

Would you really like to be responsible for causing something like that to someone just to satisfy your wish for nuts?

I hope you started this thread through a position of ignorance (i.e lack of knowledge) rather than pure selfishness.

So If I am in a Wobbleade emporium and did the same, who are you going to sue. Myself, I wanted a packet of nuts with my ale, but someone else away from me collapses. Who is at fault?

Personally I think there is something wrong with someone who cannot go 7-8 hours without eating nuts. Never heard of a nut addict but seems there must be one.

Or they are just a selfish moron.

I pick the latter, as I really do think they don't give a !!!! about others.

Really? Not eating nuts makes you suffer? You poor unfortunate soul.

Travelling with the masses isn't a problem, it's travelling with the one that has a problem that bothers me. So, no, I don't need to "chater" my own transport.

If you travel with the masses then you have to put up with what the masses want. If you want bespoke travel arrangements then sort out your own private jet.

I'd consider that somewhat of an accident. It's also a lot less likely to happen in a bar/public space than a plane due to how the air circulation works and the difficulty in getting medical attention. However if you've explicitly been told not to eat nuts on a plane and do so anyway which causes someone to die I can't see how that individual isn't responsible. I wasn't even considering civil action (almost certainly they'd be considered negligent and lose their assets/home, etc) more if that person would be going to prison.

Essentially eating nuts on a plane could not only ruin several peoples lives (including taking one) but your own as well. Is it really worth it?

    I'd say this slightly differently:
"If you travel with the masses you should be willing to put up with what a minority of those masses need (not want) from a medical perspective".

And if it meant that someone with a serious allergy wasn't put at risk (and let's face it, possible inconvenience to the rest of the passengers should a detour be necessary for medical reasons) I'd be willing to put up with that.

My point was a general one and not just confined to nuts but in saying that you are completely correct in what you are saying.

Earlier in the year I travelled long haul with Royal Brunei. On both the outward and homeward journeys packets of peanuts were handed out two or three times. There was no warning given, no notices anywhere that I saw, and I didn't hear anybody question nuts being freely available. No announcements were made that nuts would be handed round.

I wonder if the air conditioning system on the plane (one of the latest Dreamliners) is so sophisticated that the allergens are removed somehow before the air is recirculated?
