Student bank accounts

I've just had my results and I've now got an unconditional offer at university, so I'm starting to look at student bank accounts. The Santander 123 student account offers a 4 year railcard, but the Nationwide FlexStudent offers a much better overdraft. Can I sign up for the Santander account, get the railcard and then switch to the Nationwide account?
Thanks!
Thanks!

No. You have to put £500 each term into the Santander account.

So if I put £500 into the Santander account, claimed the railcard and then switched to Nationwide, they'd cancel the railcard?0

You are aware that both overdraft options state 'up to', you are not guaranteed to get the full amount offered - it's subject to status.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. They can not cancel the railcard once you have it.0

I went into my local Branch a couple of days ago to ask to switch to a Student account as i am off to Uni Next month.I was told that this can be done online. I went online and filled out the form which did not allow me to put in any of my Student/UCAS details showing loan amounts and other income. I application was then refused by email. I rang head office and was told that I should not have applied online at all due to problems with their website. I was told that I can only apply in Branch (so back to square 1). I went down to my branch and they did not believe me and told me again to go online. I refused and told them my story.I have now arranged an appointment for next wednesday. I presume that as I had been refused a Student bank account online that this will now affect my credit rating. I am not a happy bunny.:mad:0

Maybe this will help with regards to the railcard - taken from their T&Cs here.13.1 The terms associated with the Railcard

Other banks are available...
After that experience, anyone who proceeded to bank with Santander would not deserve a place at university.
Personally I am reasonably happy with Nationwide.0
