Weekly Flylady Thread 14th August 2017

Evening everyone
Totally agree with you Valli. I also think it helps if you can find ways to make it easier and more efficient for yourself. Last year, when I broke my ankle, I found it difficult to do much at all. I finally decided to abandon my 'old' ways of doing things and invested in some 'tools'.A successful Flylady is one who keeps trying - (IMO - I'd be interested to hear the opinions of others) the whole point of this thread is that we acknowledge it's a mind-numbingly boring, never-ending job that none of us actually wants to do - so we are here to support each other. So if you try, and if you post then, as far as I am concerned, you're successful.
I now have a karch*r for the windows, a duster on a stick for high spots and another, thin one for under furniture areas, a G peoples decent, rechargeable, hand-held cleaner for mattresses, sofas, corners and other awkward places and a lovely, light-weight rechargeable hoover for the floors. It's almost enjoyable now :rotfl:
I also lurve getting up to a clean and tidy kitchen - seems to start the day off on the right foot. So, every night when I do the washing-up etc, I also wipe over the hob, micros and bunkers - it only takes a couple of minutes or so - and put the rubbish and recycling out.

I like that.
Made real progress with a big frog today; sorted and emptied several files in the home office (when isn't my office a frog?) - like do I really need pay slips from 2003? Binned my entire maths folder; haven't taught it for years and unlikely to do so again, so why is it taking up space. Can there be a more space-consuming, messy build-up of paperwork than teaching? Trouble is with assessments, I have to legally keep all 'raw data' which is about 40 thicknesses of paper per student for 6 or 7 yrs and I'm running out of shelving. Great though it was, getting rid of a few other folders will seem like a drop in the ocean come Christmas when I'll have filled up a few more (1 magazine box per month seems the norm). Mr N suggested the loft, which may be reasonable as they genuinely need to be kept so it's not an excuse for dumping.
Another frog has been putting all my CPD courses on line from my notebook. Had quite a few computer glitches but seems to be working now. Lots more to do but I feel better now I've started it.
BIL coming tomorrow for a few days, so did flowers for his bedroom, did a meal plan/shopping list and vacuumed all downstairs. Printed off map for an even we're going to on Sat (Bird Fair in Rutland anyone?).
Collected old flower arrangement from church and have re-vamped it to take back tomorrow.
Other dailies kept up with, more or less, which is more than can be said for the weeding.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Hi all - virtually no flying here again. But in the true spirit of things I will pat myself on the back for keeping everyone fed, keeping the laundry basket from overflowing and managing to run the cordless hoover around once this week.
Done lots of paid stuff, had a day out at the races with my lovely boys and their girlfriend and dealt with lots of requests such as "can I borrow your bank card, will you iron my shirt and can you take me to the pub".
Paid stuff today, catch up later.0 -
Small is 6 today! Just where did that time go!?!?
So far I have cleared away wrapping paper and eaten doughnuts.
And I'm making a list...0 -
Happy Birthday Dizzy's Small! :bdaycake:
Narco I allow myself to put all paperwork that has to be kept in the attic, on the proviso that I clearly label it with the date it can safely be 'let go.' That way I don't even have to open it to check when the time comes.
Kitchen floor washed *yuk*, rent collected from Lodger 2 and top layer dysoned except my office because Devil Cat is asleep on my office chair. He's fully medicined up for the day and I haven't told him OH is due home this arvo, so he'll be thrilled when he hears him come in through the door. And yes, Devil Cat does know when it's OH's key.Better is good enough.0 -
Honey_Bear wrote: »It's funny sometimes once you get going at this flying lark, RountTuit, you sort of get into it. Sorry about your hoover flex - my cordless does a maximum of 20 minutes so I've found out exactly how much that'll do of the house and I absolutely love that. I can do the stairs, or a couple of rooms that are full of grot wall to wall, or skoot around several rooms that aren't too bad. I wouldn't go back to doing the whole house in one go for all the tea in china.
Thank you Honey Bear. I was seeing the 20 minutes max as a con not a pro; and then people started talking about docking stations and I switched off (not sure if pun intended or not
). Coming down the stairs this morning was like a before and after ad.- unvacced stairs full of dust and grot followed by vacced stairs where carpet has come up like new. So now I'm even more motivated
I've had a proper look at the flex I've desheathed it down to copper wire in 4 places  I'm going to ask my dad if it's salvageable and if not I'm going for a cordless. All spiders have been given notice that they are to be made homeless in the near future
It was such a pleasure getting dressed this morning with everything in drawers and easy to find - I even chose socks to match my t shirt
- where i used to rummage through the pile and put on whatever I found first.
And then making breakfast in a dirty-pot-free kitchen :j Everything is so much easier.
So after the dailies it's MAD in DS room or spare room aka RoD1. (Large cupboard under the stairs being RoD2.) One box/bag at a time and who knows what treasures I'll find in there!
I'll let you know how it goes. If I'm not back to report in at lunch time would someone send in a search party please?

Happy birthday small x
Morning all. I've enlisted an assistant today, DD2 (who is 7) is going to help me with chores. She's helped me with hand washing so far, and clearing the breakfast things. DD1 is OH's apprentice, and has made brews for him.
We're on a coffee and bagel break just now, then on with more x0 -
Happy Birthday Small
Kudos to Biscuit's 'crumbs' (DDs) who are helping. I was always my dad's apprentice and hence am nifty with a toolkit.
Round Tuit - excellent work and am pleased you're reaping rewards. I know, after my 'awful time' how sodding hard it can be to motivate oneself to actually do stuff - and then you end up in a stagnated mentality/situation where you're overwhelmed. I have said it before - but I can quite understand how hoards build up - and then you end up being owned by your possessions and controlled by them.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Happy Birthday Small! Presents and doughnuts are the perfect way to start the day
Not much chance of any flying being done here. OH was fine at 9.00 yesterday. By 11.00 he had developed a raging temperature and uncontrollable shivering. I bagged a GP appointment for him at 4.20, got him there with great difficulty, and the Dr is treating him for a UTI.
DH still has a temperature over 39 degrees, sweated and moaned all night, and is like a limp rag this morning. He was supposed to be seeing the pulmonary consultant this morning for what we had hoped would be his discharge after last winter's pneumonia and everything that followed. Fortunately the consultant's secretary is a kind and helpful person and will arrange a new appointment for him, even at only 2 hours' notice. And DH won't be working on the railway tomorrow, either!
I finally got to sleep on the sofa at 5.00 and have had about 4 hours' worth. Rosie came in at 9.00 to wake me and to point out that the sun is shining, but I shall be tied to my desk and nursing duties for the next few hours so it's unlikely that she will get a walk this morning
I finally received some more data about my placement parish yesterday which will make the essay writing a lot easier, but I am hating it.
Sorry to be a wet blanket. Will go and wake/cheer myself up with a shower...
(((Hugs))) and sticks all round. Please may I keep some spoons for myself today? x0
