Maybe they couldn't afford the Apple repair bill ;-)
It might shock you, but even at trade prices the most expensive LCD screens are Samsung, by a long way.Quite a shocking difference, you wonder how they ever claimed 97 or 98% coverage.
Three currently claim 97% 3G coverage, 4G coverage is lower, I think it's at around 91% iirc (but I can remember if that's the standard or "supervoice" (+800) figure, I think it's including 800 but could be wrong.====0 -

Well it is pretty rubbish around Milton Keynes. Can't get it in my house - shame as they do a never run out PAYG sim I keep for emergencies - and even walking around central Milton Keynes, their signal goes up and down like one of OTIS' best.0 -

The figures are usually quoted for outdoor coverage as the network has no control over building materials used on properties and certain materials significantly degrade signal.
This again leads back to the advantages of having access to the 800MHz network as the low frequency allows for superior in building use.====0 -
Explains a lot, Apple use Samsung screens ;-)
Last time I checked on suppliers Samsung supplies iPad screens, not iPhone, iPhone screens are from LG and Japan Display (though it might have changed since, especially with the rumoured OLED in the forthcoming phone).
Though I can remember that the Galaxy S5 screen cost more than buying a good condition second hand S5 a few years ago. They were something like £170 for a screen while the iPhone screen was around £50.
The actual repair was also far more difficult and time consuming.====0 -

Yeah, they swap around, obviously to keep the price down, the iPhone 8 screen will be a Samsung.
Most of the reports so far actually point to LG Display as being the primary supplier (they already supply the OLED screens for the Apple Watch).
For example

It's equally possible that Apple have contracted multiple suppliers, they've done it in the past.====0

The additional coverage is volte?
Not sure about after sales, CPW would treat you badly however much you spent. As for build quality, sometimes it feels like every other iPhone has a broken screen, but they do look nice.
Build quality has nothing to do with broken screens.
It's a natural side effect of phones with more glass on them and people who are clumsy not protecting their phones. We use these devices in every situation which runs a higher risk of accidents. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
