eBay debt collectors - Can I ignore them?
Comments
-
It's been many years since anyone has managed to find any case where ebay have pursued a debtor via the courts. They usually give up either at the nagging stage, or sometimes at the debt collection agency stage.
So is it safe for me to just ignore the emails from ebay asking me to pay and then also ignore the inveitable contact from the debt collectors?
With eBay suspending my account I also want to withhold from paying my withstanding fees on my bussiness account to of £88. Would you advise this is an insignifcant amount along with my personal account of £55, and would be safe to ignore ebay and any follow ups from debt collectors?0 -

I still don't think the amount is worth them taking you to court for, but please remember that is my opinion and not fact. You might want to acquaint yourself with the legalities of what a debt collector can and can't do so you are prepared.
Also, re your business, for the sake of such a small debt are you happy to give up trading on one of the largest online platforms in the UK? Without PayPal you might well be cutting off many other sales platforms as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Even if I pay the requested amount, I wont have access to my account. They suspended me for another reason yet they wont tell me what terms/policy I violated. Completely unrelated to this oustanding balance. But Thank you.
In your history, are there any signs I can look out for if it does go to court? such as the last warning message or something similar just incase it comes to that.
For ignoring them do I respond to any of there letters/phone calls or simply cut off all comms to them until they drop it themselves ?0 -

If it goes to court in can get all the way to judgement and as long as you pay within 28 days your credit file wont be affected0 -

On most iPhones and Android phones you can block numbers that have attempted to call you. On home landlines, Panasonic and newer BT phones have a call bar list.
Easiest way to ignore them is to send them a recorded delivery letter stating that you withdraw their implied right to call by telephone, sms or visits under the Protection from Harassment Act and that you will only accept emails and letters.
There is a marked difference between a debt collector/debt collection agency and a bailiff.The man without a signature.0 -

So worst case scenario is that I ignore them, until I get an official court hearing/judgement and from that point I can just pay with no affects?
If I where to pay at that stage would I have to cover the cost of court/legal hearing?0 -

Yes but you cannot sell on eBay without PayPal, so you will be giving up your business. Also, a lot of other sites I sell on including specialist forums tend to only use PayPal, I certainly couldn't trade without it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But Paypal have already taken their fees. If the OP does not pay his eBay fees, Paypal won't give a hoot.0 -

Without a PayPal account though Op can't use eBay as a seller, so it has the same result. Although they are no longer linked I suspect PayPal may well follow eBay in wanting further information and might end up with PayPal becoming difficult later as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
