Please do not get me wrong, i do understand where/why poeple are & can get upset etc.

I am fairly new to all of this (yes i have been a member for some time but i could not be brothered to enter stuff before. But this year i have decided to do so.
I have treid do searches before and maybe i do it .Take yesterday for example i did do a search for one of my post (snapjacks) i did not find any thing, but if you look i have had some people saying thanks for posting etc, & others say they have entered before etc.
I think some people may not of seen/ found the orig post like me, nor have they seen the SAID NEW POSTING TO?

SO CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE PUT ME RIGHT ON WHAT HOW TO -
CHECK THE POSTING BEFORE I/WE DO. I also have been looking on the likes of KIPPER''S (one of a few) COMP POSTING LIST (OF WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TOO) If i dont see/found it here after also checking/searching i make a post.

Like i say i do want your help and i am more than willing to except your advice.
At the end of the day we all want to have a chance of wining somthing for free- lol :j .

I wonder if people are using the correct search button. Its the plain Search, not search this thread.

If you copy the url, or middle part of it, and put it in search usually works. I more often than not, use the advanced search function, seems to be more reliable for me anyway.

for example, if you want to find out if the
    http://www.sci-fi-online.50megs.com/competitions.htm

Go to the main comp page
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=72

on the tool bar starting Threads in Forum, look along, and you will see Search This Forum. (Its not the threads in forum on the Sub Board.)
Click on that, and put in sci-fi-online, and it will come up with all the Sci-fi comps
  • a couple of times I've responded to a comp, for example mentioning the end date is different . . .

Since this also bumps the thread up the board, how does this differ, in that you are then just as likely to accidentally enter it again?

While I agree that a mere thanks is redundant, I cannot see the difference (except in degree - the frequency of its happening would be less) between the accidental re-entering because of a factual comment or a thanks.

Are you effectively banning any replies? and if not, when is replying OK and when isn't it?

    thanks
(oops - wrong word in the context? )

Just my ickle thought - newbies please dont be scared of posting anything, it takes a second to open a thread see you have entered and thanked that and move onto the next comp. so if you 'bump' a thread by thanking it by accident or whatever please dont worry, tis hardly a big crime - i did lots worse when i started on here. I was arguing and everyfink :D
    Nerdy Comper since 2005:D
  • for new forum users like myself it takes sometime to work out the thanks button does not appear if you are not logged on
i felt a fool looking for it for so long

Any chat about the comp or info regarding the comp is fine on each one. Some comps involve a lot of answers of questions that everyone helps out with so requires lots of extra posts. The problem a lot of us have is comps bumped from out of 'the deep' just because someone has written 'thanks' instead of clicking the thanks button.

  • A valid point and tactfully said.

Although this started to annoy me also, i have now started the habit of looking at the number of posts on the right hand box before i enter. if it says 0 i know it is a new post and can go straight on. if it is more than 1 or 2, I check it to be sure or miss it all together, ( depending on how long i've been away!)

Still a newbie myself, so please keep giving advice:D

To those who win regularly (the lucky ones) which method do sponsors use to inform of win?

    Post
    Email
    Phone (number shown or withheld)

More often than not it is by email but a lot of wins can just turn up with the postman unannounced. :D

I don't know if its of any help, but I have the main comp page in favourites, so its often quicker to get back that way ~ it takes ages otherwise to go through the different stages.
