Yes I do, I'm ashamed to admit my highest ever was £22 which meant I had spent £2200 in the co-op over six months. That was my lightbulb moment for actually planning food and going to a real supermarket every now and then. I still judge my success or otherwise by the June/December dividend :o

ETA that was back when they used to half price reductions first thing and we bought all of the meat etc that way. Not a chance now, it's 30% off overpriced to start with, and not reduced till late afternoon.

I'm glad you had a good Christmas. No snow here - just horrid rain and sleet. I decided to slow down on Christmas Eve and not stress. Didn't manage to do any more baking (was going to do two lots of Stollen and am now stuck with lots of quark), but essentials were done. Stupid cold meant that I struggled through the last two days, rather than properly enjoying them. It's still around today and now OH has it as well. Can't see us get up to much until we hopefully go to Haworth tomorrow.

Leftover day yesterday (sarnies and fry-up). The turkey and Christmas Even ham were much too big to eat quickly, so part of today will be spent planning food and freezing portions of things. DS2 is already waiting for his favourite turkey soup (which is really just broth with bits of turkey). Freezer also needs rearranging as DS1 has apparently been given a pheasant.

Sending OH to the co-op for milk in a bit and maybe a jigsaw puzzle, if the charity shop is open). I miss looking for bargainous food, but we really don't need it/have room for it. However, little cat killed my hand mixer minutes before I needed it to mash the potatoes, so this will need replacing (brought it with me from Germany in '89 - can't see the next one lasting as long). Also, the toastie maker has lost its non-stickability. Will keep a look out for offers.
  • I tried quark when I did SW and really wasn't keen. Not sure what you could do to use it up. It was one of those things that seemed to get used to make cheat cakes rather than as a food in its own right.

Bad mixer destroying cat. At least it's the right time to spot a bargain replacement.

I thought replacing the mixer would be easy, but there aren't any great offers around and a lot of the poor reviews comment on flimsiness and lower speeds which are too fast. Looks like I'll have to spend a bit more or wait longer.

Low-fat quark isn't much good for anything other than baking. The full-fat stuff makes nice dips (garlic and herb, chives) or an alternative to yogurt (stir in jam or cooked fruit).

Most of the Stollen was meant as presents and will still be appreciated after Christmas. I'll probably have to bake.

ETA: I just remembered what I read in your post earlier - no new books? What happened?

I've got a cold and am feeling sorry for myself... so have left my mum and my aunt to their own devices this afternoon (they were having lunch with my brother & the kids who are of to the panto, and then going to explore in town. I came home). Hopefully they'll remember to call me when they get cold/fed up.

We had a bit of snow first thing, but then rain so it's all gone. Weather is just starting to improve.

Went to the supermarket on the way back from my brother's to get fizzy water for my sore throat and accidentally stocked up on half price gammon joints, pizza and cheesecake. And a couple of pans... I must stop spending money as I have builders to pay and lights to buy and blinds to order (I have managed to get round to ordering the privacy blinds). I also need a couple of bits of furniture for storage in the dining room... so might see whether I can find time to go to the catalogue returns outlet near Northampton on Sunday/Monday after taking my mum home.

What I'd really like to do is sleep for a few days, but I need to just focus on recovering enough to be able to drive my mum home...

No snow here and so far the only shopping I've done is buying DD's watch for her birthday which hopefully should be here tomorrow before we go to Blackpool on Friday. It is her 16th on the 2nd and she wanted a particular Olivia Burton watch.
Off to Mum & Dad's shortly for a family party then i only have tomorrow at home as we come back from Blackpool on the 3rd and I go back to work on the 4th.

    Have a lovely break Juliejim
Mrschaos I couldn't find anything I wanted to buy to read sadly. I've done a three month free trial on kindle unlimited (on the amazon Christmas sale page) plus they had some 99p georgette heyer so I'm ok for kindle reading but I prefer physical books for daytime reading.

So use it up day efforts:

Beef stew with leftovers carrots and reduced mushrooms, with mash (stirred the celeriac pur!e through which was good) and the last of the reheated veg. DS1 ate turkey and the last of the trimmings. I used a tub of reduced cream to make nice thick custard which got served over the banananana mountain. DS2 had the leftover grated carrots as part of his raw food selection so nothing has been wasted. I'm pleased with that. Just need to slice the rest of the turkey tomorrow so I can freeze it in gravy for DS1, and that's everything used up from Christmas Day.

And we cracked open the cheese and biscuits, so that was me happy. Plenty left for the next week or so.
  • All sounding good and you have reminded me I have a celeriac that needs using, I think I will make celeriac mash tomorrow I add garlic and parmesan cheese to it and its delicious. xx

Sounds like a lovely dinner catering for everyone.

I made broth with some of the carcass, so DS2 is a very happy boy and the big lad trouped off to work after a 'breakfast' of the rest of the smoked salmon on toast (with a ham sarnie and the rest of the yule log as part of his pack-up). I picked up some heavily reduced fruit and veg bits from Mr T, but nothing in the co-op, other then sweet stuff, like you said.

We're hopefully off to Haworth tomorrow, so tea will either be ham with peas and chips or a quick turkey curry. I really need to have more veggies.
