  • Had some free smart lightbulbs and a hub thing from our energy provider. I can now switch two lights on and off from my phone. Thrillsvilles. I couldn't see the point, but OH has pointed out that I can sneakily fit them into the boys rooms and flash the lights on and off multiple times when I want to attract their attention. I still favour electric shock therapy.
This is funnier than the standup I paid good money for last year ;)

My cats dont seem to wander at all , all curled up with the poor weather, my boy cat likes biscuits only go cat or whiskas, female cat likes wet food and the little orphan from next door she eats what she can. They all seem to be doing a sleeping marathon but it is freezing, my little westie has tucked in to a left over offering of sunday dinner with a cooked yorkie pudding, and snoozing lol :) . x

  • :rotfl: to your cat thief neighbours and your fickle cats.

Your car services and MOT have come uncomfortably close to Christmas, an expensive time .

  • Hi Fay, my loyal furry friends are all curled up in key locations. The disloyal ones are presumably curled up in their other homes. Go cat makes the deaf old man rather ill - he is supposed to have special old man biscuits at great expense. The cats who aren't meant to eat them gobble them down for 3 meals - and then they refuse to touch them.

doingtanyway. I'm just waiting for an opportunity to swap the lights into their rooms and then see how long it takes them to figure it out.

no update on the paperwork, hope you are right EH. I did reply to the chasing email to say that it had been sent a week ago but have had no response to that either.

Busy day out and about, essential spends including my new tyres at £180.

Really poor F&V in our MrL so will need to buy that elsewhere which is frustrating but I had an offer in the post today for the over priced organic veg box (10 off a 20 for 3 weeks) so will order that next week.

OHs expenses not signed off in time for the end of the month and I forgot to put mine in so my plan to cover the additional expenses from that money is doomed. I am going to have to Dip Into The Savings :eek::eek:
  • Yes HHOD, bad luck with the cars rather than poor planning. We moved in a few days before Christmas so the house insurance always falls due and I pay as one lump sum if I can, and I save a little each month to cover it but I try to cheat and do it out of income if I can and keep the savings.

Cats are so disloyal, fortunately for me my neighbours aren't pet people so no chance of that happening. Although I'm down to one cat and a dog since the old boy cat passed away last year at the ripe old age of 21.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • On the car thing - is there scope in the mileage of either (Can't remember if they're still in warranty but if so obviously that might make a difference) to shuffle the non essential stuff to after christmas and then staggered over a few months? Ours need their insurance and breakdown cover done at the same time (A hangover from the days of using multicar policies) and the home contents insurance is also due that month, but we have the dedicated car savings pot that covers the car stuff and the household account for the home policy. If things were still a bit more "month to month" it would be a bit of a pain. I usually do services when the MOT comes along as that makes sure they get done annually - but again I'd not hesitate to stretch that out to an 18 month gap if needed. Modern cars tend to have service intervals set a LONG way ahead of where they need it, annoyingly!

Ouch to tyres - have you looked at people like blackcircles.com to see if they come out any cheaper? Both of ours now run happily on budget tyres rather than mainstream brands - we have a lovely local independent tyre place who can generally rival the Kwikfits of this world for decent prices.

Local independent price matched the on your drive people and could do it the same day so I am not doing my big weekly drive on borderline tyres. We tend to go with mileage rather than dates for the services once they are out of warranty so both slightly overdue anyway.

OH nudged work about his months old expenses not being sorted again and they have sent a payment through instead of making him wait so that covers most of it. I did mine today which will be paid in a few weeks.

Remortgage stuff has finally confirmed receipt of documents so hopefully that will continue to crawl on at snails pace.

Payday for me today, and then my hours drop from next week so the next one will be a third lower. I'm focussing on the positive extra time to do stuff rather than the negative income drop.

I'm grateful not to have any of your delicious food described. I'm a bit hungry but I don't eat after 7pm.

Your pay drop will be me next year and just 1 salary coming in so I'm a bit fearful. My drop will be 20%. I'll be watching to see how you adapt and taking notes

Enjoy the rest of your evening :)
