  • Its in that very rare category of things I would willingly live on baked beans to replace if it died doingitanyway I tried the cheaper bath stuff like you suggested - MrL at 60p/750ml for their herbal bath stuff smells nice, is suitably thick so I don't use much and it doesn't make me itch so a win all round. Wouldn't have tried it if you hadn't said about your down branding so thanks.
  • I've been surprised at the frugal choices I've made on this journey that are surprisingly OK. There are some things I will not compromise on, like you and your coffee machine. Glad my post helped redo.

Bean to coffee sounds fab, but it will have to stay on my wish list for a while longer. Too many needs that have to come before. Although I'd love to know which machine you chose, so I have something to aim for. There are so many different ones and starting with a recommendation is helpful.

How do you manage to keep the beans fresh if you buy in bulk? Freezer?
  • i stick with my cafetiere that i hate cleaning. anything nicer or handier to use could result in a major increase in caffeine intake

Here’s a vote for the cafetière too - always enjoy my coffee from here. Not a tea drinker at all - can’t stand the stuff - sometimes I wonder if I’m really English!:D

  • I would also love to hear recommendations for a coffee machine. I don't drink lots, partly because I only really like the good stuff, and I've been wondering about getting a machine ever since moving into this house.

  • I have a delonghia magnifica model, they are on offer on Am-zn. If i was replacing I would go for one that just makes good espressos as I don't use the other bits.

The coffee beans come in sealed kilo bags with up to 18 months shelf life (c£4KG in France, start at about £7 here). Once it is opened it lives in the fridge veg drawer, probably should freeze them but never had the room. I go through a bag fairly quickly anyway :o

Lots of work stuff today, and a school meeting this evening but in between I did manage to shift some cash around, and open a better savings account for my tax money. A whole 1.2% with the post office - still better than the 0.25 my current instant access pays.

    Day off tomorrow, hurrah :j

Another one here who can't stand tea. I've got a Tassimo machine at home but at work I use Mr S Taste the Difference coffee bags £2.65 for 10 and better than any coffee shop takeaway coffee at a fraction of the price. The smell is divine. I've recommended them to so many people they keep selling out. I only drink black coffee so the flavour has to be right :)

Enjoy your day off redo :)

I drink tea in the mornings and evenings, but love a cup of coffee in the afternoon (or for a late weekend breakfast). DS1 and I have decided on a Russell Hobbs grind and brew at £70. It's a filter machine and comes with a timer, which suits both our needs. The other will have to wait a year (the big lad will eventually move out again, so I'll need a replacement).

That's a great price for coffee! I'm going to shop around now. Also, a friend is moving to France, which will be another reason to go and visit. :)
  • Kettle - teabag - mug. that's me sorted! :D

That's me too, the simple life :rotfl:.

I love lattes, but they are calorific so I have them as a treat when I go out. At home I drink Mr T value tea bags which are actually not half bad :)

  • I have managed to resist frittering on anything cashmere or gadgety today - although I did have to part with cash for petrol, food and household shopping.

OH payday, and mine shortly so the pennies that are left have been swept into the short term savings for the next famine. My hours are dropping with the project delay and there is no tedious so these savings are essential, Might even have to get on with the book  Its that or do some cleaning

Tonight we had a MrT takeaway - a whole £5 for 2 curries, rice, naan and bhaji. It was ok, and a lot cheaper than any form of takeaway which was on the cards given that I had been out and on my feet all day. By spending £10 in MrT I saved 2.50 on the parking too. The other £5 was another green and blacks tasting box for the present stash.

House insurance renewal is in, so I need to see if I can beat it. Slightly cheaper than last year, but still need to check round. Both cars need a service, mine needs front tyres and his needs an MOT and brake pads/discs so an expensive month even if you ignore the festivities. I am still mostly ignoring the festivities, although DS1 has drawn up a list which helps.

Remortgage - the paperwork I posted last Saturday still hasn't reached the solicitors so unlikely it will be done for the end of the month which is frustrating. Bet I have to do the deed all over again, and it has to be an original independent witnessed signature which is a pain to sort given that I am billy no mates at the best of times :o
