That cheese & onion pie sounds tasty. I'm just feeling hugely reluctant to put the oven on for long right now though!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

You've been busy cooking Redo. I find cooking a trial in hot weather. Do you like the heat or does it drain your energy? I think people either love or hate hot weather. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I prefer being hot to cold @HairyHandofDartmoor because of my joint problems, but I try not to have the oven on in this weather. My cooking was a batch of stuff in the oven at the same time on the last day it rained, and an attempt to maximise return on the oven being on.
The bulgar is good because it is just boil a kettle and leave it to soak, and the stock means it doesn't taste like the nasty health food that I was brought up on. The eldest ate the last of it from the fridge as late night snack, shame he didn't shut the fridge door properly...

I bought some meringues, they have the lovely advantage of being gluten free and fairly cheap - they last well in a clip lock tub. The HM raspberry coulis lives in the fridge and is lovely drizzled over a meringue with some vanilla ice cream or equally cheap squirty cream. Fancied something different though and will make my mothers caramel sauce to stir through some chopped bananananananas or cooked apples from the garden tree.
Thick Caramel sauce
2oz butter, 5oz mixed brown and sugar, 5oz syrup - melt together and simmer for 5 minutes before adding 5fl oz of evaporated milk and some vanilla essence. Keep in the fridge in a jar. You could add salt flakes with the milk if you prefer salted caramel.

They sound delicious. We sometimes have a meringue nest with vanilla ice cream and smashed chocolate (Maltesers, wispa, m&m’s, whatever we have in really…all smashed like a McFlurry topping). Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I need to focus on eating what's in the freezers and cupboards - although without an exchange date, let alone completion, I'm not sure how long I have. However, it should save some money.
As I no longer have viewings, I can at least eat the fish that's in the freezer. So today (seeing as all the windows will be open) I'm cooking the mackerel that has been lurking since my sense of smell returned in the summer of 2020!3
