oh we cracked and gave in some days ago, but it was a positive exercise in terms of lbs and £s and therefore will happen again
I also made fruited scones using elderly yoghurt while I had the oven on, which turned out well. 'Good food easy fluffy scones'. Buttered with Mr T Butterpak which was quite nice. Not tried it melted but haven't heard any moans from boy 1 so it cant be terrible.
Draft payroll in and most over £1k per month staff seem to have gained a straight £30 for the NI changes, hurrah.

Failed experiment of the week, soaking rice and lentils for dosa. Not one to repeat, no 'smooth puree', just a gritty mess and wasted materials.
I am trying to cook more fuel efficient meals - couscous for example being fastest on the hob and popular with the DS. Today we have (on offer shoulder from weeks ago) lamb in the (bargain at the time) instant pot, which be served with the frankly pathetic entire crop of new potatoes from the garden and fridge bottom veg.
More elderly raspberries made into drizzle. Glorious dribbled on bought meringues and cream. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

A successful experiment, and a recipe to keep for when I have soft tomatoes to use up.Tomato and chilli jam.Finely chopped red onion and 400g mixed chopped fresh tomatoes into a pan. Added 125ml white wine vinegar, a dash of pre chopped red chillis from the freezer, 150g mixed brown and white sugar and a couple of star anise. Simmered for 20 minutes, then took the star anise out. I blended it because he doesn't like lumps, before pouring it into three little jars.
Very nice on cheese sandwiches, and as part of the marinade for the hairy dieters sticky chicken.
*I tend to use a mix of expensive brown and cheap white sugar now to get the taste but not all of the extra cost. Dark brown is 2.30/kg, white was 65p.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I will be making it again @winterwarrior, not least because the greenhouse toms are finally ripening and I have some soft bought ones too.
another forgotten favourite - spiced roasted chickpeas. Drain a tin of chickpeas, mix a tablespoon of oil with 2 teaspoons of salt and spices (harissa mix for us) and give it 20 minutes in the oven at 180.
cheap and tasty protein. Less is better on the oil, and cook for longer if not crispy enough. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Fresh food shopping this morning, and a rare trip to Lidl (to use a 20 voucher for moving the car insurance) and I picked up a £1.50 box.Lots of citrus which we don't eat much of, so I plan to make fruit barley water loosely based on the Shirley Goode recipe.Courgettes, leek, onion, and broccoli will go into an oven baked frittata
the lone potato (a rare treat!) will be used with Sunday lunch tomorrow
Apricot, plum, pineapple, nectarine will be eaten as snacking fruit
the blackbirds love the apples
i quite like the challenge of 'no waste'
mrM contributed reduced Lancashire, so a cheese n onion pie for mr redo for cold snack lunches. And if the ovens on, more scones for me. Another small bowl of home grown raspberries for the freezer, for jammin'
cooking apples are looking good, blackberries are ripening, and I might even get enough grapes for jam (jelly)
brown sugar, b&m had light brown 500g for 79 pence, half the normal price. Worth stocking up, I bought the last bag.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Good work! And a good reminder about roasted chick peas - I keep meaning to make them but for some bizarre reason have never got round to it...4

I’ve never tried roast chickpeas. Our plum trees are heaving with green plums so I hope we get a good harvest before the birds and wasps get them 😊Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Bulgar and tuna salad
add 300ml of hot stock to 50g bulgar, cover and leave for an hour or so. Cook and cool some green beans, and chop some tomatoes. Drain the liquid from the bulgar, squeezing in our in the sieve. Mix in the veg, drained tin of tuna and a simple lemon/olive oil dressing. Was a filling lunch for two.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
