Thanks apple, ccl and mothernerd. It's so annoying as one of them is my best frlend (but she can't deal with other people being emotional and treats me like I have the plague if I'm upset) and the other two are lovely mature ladies but I think they all have their love lives so sorted that they have no really understanding on what it's like.

Anyway today is another day and I'm determined not to mope.

    Yesterday I was grateful for:-

    - a swim with a friend and her toddler daughter, they were just so happy and positive and have a great relationship
    - not caving in and buying takeaway and chocolate, but I did treat myself to apple pie and custard from the freezer
    - the lovely weather, I'm sure I would have been gloomier if it'd been dull weather
    - my lovely dogs, being sympathetic and staying close to me as they knew something wasn't right
    - and last but definitely not least, finding out my bathroom (upstairs and with a bath!!!) is starting on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!

Hope you're feeling a bit better today Fmess
Had lunch with our Aussie friends yesterday and then met up with lots of others that I hadn't seen for months. Lovely day but feeling a bit delicate this morning. I'm definitely not a drinker. Had much less than everybody else and still feeling under the weather. Anyway it was a NSD for me as C paid for lunch etc.
    Grateful for:
A lovely day out with friends
My son coming to pick us up and saving the cost of a taxi.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Today I am grateful for a good haircut, for dd loving her new look - bob and fringe, for finding some as-new MBTs in my size for £10, for leftovers for lunch, for nearly finishing some sewing/ crafting, for stewed fruit for pud (apple, rasp, b'berry, plum - all foraged/ grown), for dd's exploits on the climbing frame, for St Trinians on the telly.

    Evening all,

Better day today, thank you for caring.

Had brunch out with my family, a swim with my friend and then an evening at home.

    Today I am grateful for:-

    - my safe home
    - the neighbour with annoying cowboy builders, getting and installing my new fence panels (I paid for them). That save me a huge job and makes the garden look smarter.
    - my parents paying for brunch
    - a good film
    - my trial gym membership

Today has been a spendy day, very spendy. I spent over £100 in Will Co's. However it is all things that needed to be bought sometime and today is the day I cracked.

I have hit a problem with the baby blankets. I was fine sewing them into strips, using the ends of leftover wool and filling any gaps with embroidery thread. This technique didn't work when I tried to join two strips - the end stitches just pulled away from each other, even when I did it twice. Went in the library to see if there were any alternative stitches that would work better but also have some wool as the embroidery thread isn't doing the job. Only a pound a ball.

I have been looking at wardrobes for DS2 and Beloved. Saw a black one and a white one for £30 each (that shop gets returned and end of line furniture from a well known chain - bought 2 double beds for £60 each about 3 years ago). When I looked this week (had too much needed shopping to go back the day I saw them) they had sold and the 2 they had didn't really go with what we already have. So I have bought 3 of the clothes rails for £13 each. Had one of these before and it was a bit flimsy so have kept them low not fully extended.

I need two extra shelves in the kitchen. I already have the wood and there are brackets under the stairs. I bought the shelf supports for the under stairs (much cheaper than having a row of under shelf baskets at £4 a throw) and the brackets for the under cupboard shelf. Doubt I will get as far as putting that up but they looked as though they were running down the stock and have already asked DS3's friend to do it next time he visits.

I was going to buy more hooks to go on doors and 2 towels rails to go on the bathroom door but towel rails were £10 each so bought a wardrobe rail (actually bought 2 as will put one under the bottom under stairs shelf and hang things from it using bags we have) and large screw in hooks to hold them.

Along the way I bought s - hooks, a canvas shoe holder to hang from the rail (£5 v £20 for a shoe rack) and some photo frames, hooks (for the shed) and toiletries for mum. Everything was on the list or an alternative way of doing what I wanted to do (except a set of thingies to stop hair going down the bathroom plughole and food down the kitchen sink - grains of rice etc - which is to prevent future problems.

The only major indulgence was that I managed to get in the door at my favourite (label clothes in my size) charity shop. They are having a clothing sale but every time I have looked it was packed. Spent £13 something on 5 tops - all long (cover my bum) floaty tops in the right size for now and should still be ok when I drop a dress size (or two). Some colour added to my wardrobe and might make the leggings safe to wear for a while longer (getting thin in places).

Best of all, I have realised that my £2 cow (money box) has nearly £200 pounds in it. It was supposed to be for clothing but will cover everything I have spent today.

Had a little go earlier (was supposed to be 15 - 30 minutes, did 2 hours) in their room (Beloved is at her parents so have been packing away all week at whichever room DS3 isn't in). Emptied the end wardrobe onto the bed (plus pile of clothing on floor - have been throwing down any dirty items I have found for the past 2 days) and turned it round so that I can use it. Emptied the rail of the second wardrobe and moved it to the wall (back to back with mine). Made up 2 of the clothes rails and slotted them in the space and also used an old curtain pole across the top, suspended between two of the wardrobes. Spent the rest of the time hanging up clothing (End wardrobe has DS3's longer items, rail on top of the wardrobes has his shorter items (t shirts are still in the drawer). New rails have Beloved's coats, hoodies, t-shirts etc and her dresses are in the final wardobe.

Stiill have to go back to sort out the drawers (hope I can give them an extra set or two when I transfer my clothes to my reclaimed wardrobe but will wait until all the washed items are back. Not yet decided wher to put the third rail but it will probably be needed for all the clothing Beloved has taken with her.

Tomorrow I am going to start with trying to get the new under stairs shelf in place, then I can play shuffling tins around. Need to get DS3 in a good mood because I would like a set of cube shelves moving and it is far too heavy for me.

Today I am grateful for finding solutions to long standing problems, for helpful shop assistants and taxi drivers, for finding most of the things I needed and coming up with alternatives for others, for good weather (mostly), for feeling much more cheerful and in charge (prospect of improving my room even though it looks worse for now), for resisting the temptation to buy unecessary purchases even though I had that 'I deserve it' feeling, for making progress and feeling more like 'me'.

    Finding £1.20 roadkill.

That is one awesome day, mothernerd. I'm amazed, not so much that you managed to find all those items you have been needing, but rather that you managed to get it all back home!

Tmess - glad you had a better day.

  • Sorry I've not been on for a few days - its been a bit hectic here!!

Fmess - sorry your friends upset you - I guess it was foot in mouth syndrome!! I do find that some women who are in relationships think that all single women should also be in relationships, like you cant have a happy, fulfilled life without a man.
Hope the upstairs bathroom gets done quickly and without too much mess and upheaval.

Reporting in 2 more NSD's from Weds and Thurs.

Yesterday and Friday were spend days.

How is everyone getting on with their homegrown produce/afternoon tea?

In the week I managed to finish my beetroot chutney, even if I did drop one whole jar on the floor!!!

Yesterday I made plum jam and I have just had some on toast - it is lovely. Need to visit my cousin to get more so I can make a plum chutney.

Used the last of the plums for a plum and almond puff pastry bake which we had after tea with custard.

Wanted to make blackberry upside down cake yesterday, started the mix and then realised I had no eggs so went and purchased them and will finish the cake today.

Also have some donated rhubarb so need to make some upside down cake with that and also some jam - just need to double check the recipe. Brought more jam sugar yesterday while I was out getting eggs.

No time for afternoon tea this week but might make scones next week.

    Morning turtles.

Yesterday I was grateful for another NSD (now up to 10 :)), a good run, watching our local football team win, not getting caught out in the rain, honey and mustard pork chops for tea and watching a film I hadn't seen for ages.

I managed my 10k run yesterday in just over an hour so hoping to do it in under an hour at the event next weekend.

Eager_Elephant - I made fruit scones yesterday which were yummy. Unfortunately OH is very selective about what gf/df food he eats so it was an afternoon tea for one (he claims it all tastes like !!!! but somehow managed to eat half of the chocolate cake I bought last week :rotfl:).
