Very pleased for those who are managing to moderate
I can't seem to do it, I find none easier than 1
I'm much the same paspatur although I have found a stop button. I definitely have a lower tolerance than before cutting down.
The only time I can manage a single glass and stop is when I'm in a bar and then I leave. The pleasing thing is that when I get home I don't start again whereas I always used to work on the Mastermind principle (started so I'll finish:D). If I'm drinking at home at the weekend then I'd rather have nothing than restrict myself to one.
Tonight I'm meeting friends for a meal and a drink before we go on to a function. I'll have the one glass and that'll be it.0 -

11/31 for tonight please
Very pleased for those who are managing to moderate
I can't seem to do it, I find none easier than 1
I tried to moderate for years, Paspartur, and the closest I ever got was only getting drunk once every three days which I managed for six months in 2007/8. It took me another six years of just silly drinking to realise that no matter what strategy I employed - drinking beer (which I never liked anyway), drinking gin and tonic, trying to limit it to two glasses of red wine a night, starting my drinking later in the evening - nothing was ever going to work other than stopping completely.
It was pretty tough for the first two to three months, then gently and mildly tempting for a couple of years and now it's second nature. I can never say never, but I can honestly say I don't miss it at all now, and while I might be tempted by the aroma of someone else's glass of Merlot (namely OH's) or the sight of an ice cold gin and tonic, I genuinely don't want to go back to who I was when I drank, or the life I had when I drank.
It's also much, much easier than trying to decide whether I can drink tonight every day, or whether once I've decided to have one, or two, how to resist the third and all of the inevitable ones that followed.
23/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
22/25 for last night please Shaggy. I'm not going to call in early for any evenings this week as I am having an extremely stressful time at work. I have amazed myself that I have stayed AF til now TBH. I know if I had had one drink on Friday, then there would have been no stopping me, so I abstained. Tonight could be difficult. I need to keep myself occupied. What goes around comes around.....I hope!0
